whoa this is really cool!! could be super helpful if we were able to use this sort of a system instead of calculating each player's stuff by hand :)

Yeah. Im glad i put this together last year cause it saves a lot of time between going back and forth between a bunch of tabs to get the data. Also it helps having a place to keep the ratings if you want to work on updating when you are away from your wii/ps2.

So I have currently updated all the formulas for the ratings and limited abilities that ive put in so far. My one issue is fielding for catchers. Since we dont have an actually made out formula for that I wont be able to put it in the spreadsheet.

Check this out http://www.retrosheet.org/Research/Rosc ... System.pdf

This is what I use for catchers as it rates them in categories that decide a good catcher, calling a game, passed balls, errors, throwing out runners etc. I've got a spreadsheet with the formulas pre filled and all it needs is the data put in.

On another note the speed calculation which would be a good tool. Are we using any ranges for max/min run speed for each position? As most of the faster players seem to be CF, SS and 2B.

So I found a new rating that works for arm str
so it's
(Assists-(5*Throwing Errors))/(IP)
You can do it by who's highest gets 15 ARM STR. Works pretty well as it shows a lot with accuracy and how many throws they get.

I don't think that really relates to arm strength tho. That would be more along the lines of Throwing 4/2 id say

yeah I will probably redo the ARM STR when Fans Scouting comes out, but it does say how well they throw.
And accurately too.

Another thing if it’s not known already, baseball savant has heat maps for batters when finding hot spots/ cold spots etc. Then just look at the avgs heat map

This might be a dumb question, but how do I retain the working formulas after downloading a Google Spreadsheet and reading it in OpenOffice? I know it's something simple involving commas or spaces.
