Yeah, he's the best young starting pitcher prospect in the game.

Another way to find "cheap" great players is to go to the lower salary teams and find their "superstars..."

Most of these "exceptions", I've found, are semi-star players or aging vets. Of course, that's not to say there aren't some diamonds in the rough. For example...

Vance Wilson (Tigers) makes somewhere around 1000 pts for salary and is a pretty well-rounded catcher.

Dmitri Young (Nationals) is also another guy who, I believe, makes somewhere around 800 pts and has good power. Of course, his trajectory is only 2 and his defense is poor, so he'd probably be an ideal 1B backup option or DH.

Rudy Seanez is an excellent relief pitcher who makes somewhere around 1000 pts. He's 39 years old, and only has a one year contract, but for that you get someone with good slider and changeup. He has a number of blue (positive) qualities as well.

Brian Moehler and Geoff Geary (both Astros) are two other nice bullpen guys who are getting up there in age, but have salaries somewhere in the 1000 pt range. Like Seanez, Moehler and Geary are vets that have good pitches and a number of blue qualities.

And some other 1000pts (or less) guys I like a lot:

Shane Victorino: A good CF (who can also play RF) with power and speed. Consider also BJ Upton. Both are a poor man's Chone Figgins.

Jack Cust: Slow LF with poor baserunning skills, but has tremendous power. An ideal DH who can be had for next to nothing.

Aaron Heilman: A fantastic setup guy, or even closer, with good movement and control on multiple pitches. Easier to trade for than Huston Street and signed for something like 4 years at 800 pts. An absolute steal.

Matt Kemp: A good, well rounded outfielder who can play all the positions. Defense is somewhat suspect, but hits well with decent speed. Melky Cabrera is another good 3 position outfielder.

Rafael Betancourt: Another excellent bullpen guy and one of the few players who has "A" control. A number of good pitches with good movement.

Jason Bartlett: Contact hitting, SS, with decent speed. A good bench player or even starter.

Good list. I grab up as many of these guys as I can in my drafts.

I would trade out Prince fielder for Loney at 1st, fielder is only 600 and is a much bigger power threat for just a few more points.

For CF I usually use Hamilton from the rangers, or use Ethier (RF) and convert him to play CF. Both are 390.

My last draft I actually got Hanley, Braun, Pence, Fielder, Howard(DH), F. Hernandez, Lincecum, Carmona, and Hamels, and then bought or traded for BJ Upton, and Billingsley. I traded Carmona for Upton straight up, and got Billingsley for real cheap on a buy.

I find catcher to be the hardest spot to fill with a quality cheap guy, so I always just use my success mode catcher, and I like to fill in a few pitchers with success guys too. My salary on the last draft started at 13000... then jumped to 104000 after I added a bunch of success mode stars  My lowest power on the team is Hunter Pence at 167 or something like that 8) its like home run derby even on powerful setting.

dang nice draft.
i edited hamilton by the way, since he's a freaking monster now...
also, i had a fantastic rotation and bullpen from just the draft:

Rotation:
Lincecum
Cain
Wang
Garza (edited so all his pitches have 1 more in break, he deserves it)
Volquez (edited to have 4 break on each pitch)

Relievers:
Linebrink
Greinke
A. Brown
Bierd
G. Smith (Greg, not Great)
Franklin
Closer: Jenks

Well, they have to be old to get a contract that high-they would have to prove themselves.
Not like you'd offer a 22 year old draft pick 15 mil

One thing I've noticed....

Even though Pedroia and Uggla are nearly identical players in the game, Uggla seems like the much better player. I believe that defensively he is slightly lacking in comparison to Pedroia, but his trajectory and running speed are much higher. Pedroia seems to hit in to a lot of double plays as a result.

If you're doing a Dream Draft, Uggla typically goes a lot earlier than Pedroia (round 4-5 compared to 8-9 for Pedroia), but can be easily traded for Pedroia once the season starts.

except for kinsler (whose contract is way too high in this game), santana and zambrano (around 30, but not really old).
