News Paper Headline Thing

Nomo completed his rehab start and will be reinstated from the IL being put back into the starting rotation.
Seems that Matt Garza will be optioned down to AAA to work on some mechanics; with an ugly 0-4 record and a 6.08 ERA.

Reports have shown that Zobrist is now piloting 1B and which moves Pena to the bench. A short sample size for Zobrist, but it
is also accompanied by Pena's monthly struggles.
Zobrist was initially used as a utility-player and fields most positions well, so it might be confusing at first to see them deploy Zobrist only at 1B for now.
It's not as shocking as you may think since the rest of the team is fielding very well. Zobrist is normally a middle infielder but Jason Bartlett's (.211 BA) job may not
be in jepoard as he can flash the leather - which provides more value over Pena.

MLB Network Analysis

The Rays have been playing defense consistently at elite levels which isn't the cause for their sub .500 record.
Iwamura and Floyd have been the backbone for this offense. Floyd was only supposed to be a filler for this season
as the Rays were looking to transition from rebuilding to contending. Floyd has been more than a filler and nicely slots into
the team's 3-hole hitter.
Pitching is definitely the main issue the Rays are having. 3 starters with 6+ ERA: E. Jackson, Garza (AAA), Sonnanstine. Most of
their bullpen has held up nicely but with a sub-par offense it doesn't help when their starters dig a big hole in some games.

Only a select few Rays have some nice trade value if the season goes even more south. Trever Miller, Carl Crawford, and Dan Wheeler are all free agents
at the end of the season and can definitely provide help to a team in need. As of now, it seems that the Rays would want to keep Crawford for future use
unless the right trade pieces fall into place.
If the season goes north bound, they have plenty of young talent that can land them a veteran starter which would help fill a lacking part of this team.

How dare you. Carlos Pena says he must be in the lineup or else he’ll seek a trade.

Btw, really nice formatting, love the pics. Keep it up!

I would like to be the agent of your best 5 remaining players and subsequently I would like to demand a trade for all 5 of those players for (reasons).

We acknowledge Pena's request, and we will offer to give him the remainder of April off (3 days, 2 games) before slotting him back at 1B

News Paper Headline Thing

Rays management have placed Pena back into the starting 1B role. This move caused the Rays to move Bartlett
out of the starting lineup allowing Zobrist to shift over to SS. The Rays look to keep Zobrist's scorching bat in the lineup as he has homered
in 3 straight games, totaling 4 all together.

The first full week of May has an important matchup where the Rays march into Toronto to play the 1st place Blue Jays.

News Paper Headline Thing

After shutting out the Blue Jays the night before (3-0), the Rays ended up victorious in 10 innings for game 2 of the series.
Chuck James started the night before and still proves that his run is no fake; lowered his ERA to 0.92 in 29.1 IP

For this recent game Hideo Nomo and Jesse Litsch dueled it out for 7 shutout innings until Nomo loaded the bases. Ryu came in to control the issue
but allowed 1 hit which gave Nomo his earned run. Shawn Riggans pinch hit for Navarro in the 7th and became one of the game's heroes as he knocked
in the tying run during the top the 9th with BJ Ryan pitching. Cliff Floyd roped a home run into RF breaking the 1-1 tie in the top of the 10th. Troy Percival
closed out the game giving the Rays the win.

It also seems that Riggans will be doing the main part of catching as Navarro will be downgraded into a bench role.

News Paper Headline Thing

Breaking: The Tampa Bay Rays have placed Evan Longoria on the 10 day IL with a hamstring strain. Longoria may be out for a while
as the test results showed a grade 2 strain. We expect him to be out a minimum 1 month. The news was released an hour after the game.
Eric Hinske will be called up to take on the 25th roster spot. Zobrist moves over to 3B with Bartlett back at SS.

News Paper Headline Thing

Rays took on the Yankees at the Trop.
Sonnanstine produced a quality start while the Rays seemed to have the game in the bag. Trever Miller came in hoping to finish out the game.
Miller had 2 outs and began to implode on the mound giving up hit after hit. Percival was called in to get the final out with a 5-3 lead. Giambi crushed a
3-run home run that gave the Yankees the lead after a hard fought come back. Mariano Rivera ended up closing out the game resulting in a devastating loss for the Rays.

In other news, Riggans has been a stud since becoming the 1st string catcher, and the Rays has effectively taken Baldelli out of the starting lineup after hitting .134 over 39 games.
It seems that Baldelli - who is a FA at the end of this season - could find himself back in the lineup if an injury occurs, so for now he'll find a spot on the bench.

News Paper Headline Thing

The middle game of a 3-game series between the Rays and Orioles was completed. The Rays ended up as the victor in 11 innings.
James Shields and Adam Loewen had shutouts going until the bottom of the 5th when the Rays put up 2 runs. Shields yielded 2 of his own
during the top of the 7th. During the bottom of the 11th, Riggans got things going when he smoked a line drive past a diving Payton for
an easy triple. Carlos Pena was pinch hit for by Eric Hinske who delivered the walk-off hit.

Pena feels he’s got no role on the team and requests a trade.
