I need to restock on agents.

I’ll take Koga, Conti, Sandberg, and Jaramillo

Scherzer improved to 3-0 on the season after beating the Red Sox 6-1. The 2 veteran pitchers (Lee and Ryan) came in relief for Scherzer and performed very well. It most likely won't be shocking if they had a shorter leash than most of the players on the team as they are looking to bounce back from their prior season's performance.

I'll take Scherzer but I'm dropping Carl Crawford. So he is up for grabs again.

Kershaw kept the Native American's (name fits better) bats quiet only allowing 1 run on 4 hits. The first 3 batters on the Rays' order produced almost 75% of the teams hits but managed to win the game. Seems like the only week point on the Rays so far is their bullpen.

After losing 3 in a row, the Rays broke that schneid and beat the White Sox 6-1. Jaramillo exited the game after giving up a HR in the 8th inning to Estrada. With 3 K's, Jaramillo pitched well producing a lot of contact outs.

Nice work Jaramillo.

The young guys seem to be playing well.

The Rays lost to the Orioles, but almost had an interesting comeback in the 9th inning. Totten ended the Rays' chance by being caught stealing 2nd with 2 outs in the 9th. No clear leader in the standings so far, but the Rays and Yankees are sure to add players in the next month or so.

The annual amateur draft has finished. The Rays had the 29th overall pick. They selected:

1st Round, 29th overall - Pedro Maldonado (2B)
2nd Round, 58th overall - Mardo Esquivel (P)

Maldonado might have to compete with Terrero - for 2B - when Cano becomes a FA after this season, but it seems that Maldonado is a year or two away from being MLB-ready.
Esquivel would fit in nicely as a bullpen arm if the Rays call him up.
.
Lastly, the Rays picked up FA Nick Markakis from the FA pool. He signed a 2y/430 deal with the Rays. He was called up to the majors, Elijah Dukes was sent down to AAA as the swap.
.
.
.
Rays' FA acquisitions allowed/used - 3/3 (Maxed out for 2015)
Rays' payroll/cap - 90360/92500

Melvin Upton Jr. hosted his former team but the Rays took the victory 2-0. Kawamura threw a CG SO in 84 pitches while inducing 21 contact outs. No real threat for the division title yet, it's still early but trade talk should heat up soon.

Prior to this game, Jeff Samardzija was optioned to AAA and Louis Chiasson was the call up. Chiasson will be in the team's long relief role for now as they build up his stamina over the season. Samardzija's 5.53 ERA is a bit of a concern, it seems that he will work on his mechanics while down in AAA; still in the first year of a 2y/2500 deal.

Back to the game, the Rays and Braves had a hit parade but the Rays took the win, 6-3. A combined 8 strikeouts in the game, each defensive was very much relied upon but each team managed to put up double-digit hit totals. With July right around the corner, trades should begin soon.

Over the past 2 or so weeks the Rays have fired out 3 trades..
The first trade was with the 38-46 Reds:

Carlos Marmol - 4y/5180
for
Brian Bruney - 5y/460
Ryan Hanigan - 1y/460
.
.
The second trade was with the 34-52 Royals:

Zenzo Kawamura - 1y/600
Jeff Samardzija - 2y/2500
Nick Markakis - 2y/430
(and 6000 points)
for
Brian Bannister - 2y/1580
.
.
The third trade was with the 41-49 Padres:

Yamato Koga - 1y/460
Kelvin Barzilla - 1y/450
Sal Venafro - 1y/460
(and 8000 points)
for
Adrian Gonzalez - 5y/2310
.
.
.
The trade with the Reds seemed to be more of a salary dump with taking a some-what less effective reliever; Bruney has a full 2.00 ERA higher than Marmol so it looks like theyre hoping Bruney can bounce back. Hanigan appears to have joined for depth and is now an emergency back up.
The trade with the Royals was of a more typical swap where the Royals wanted players with team control and got a high ceiling starter, Kawamura, out of it. Bannister has been wonderful so far with a 2.24 ERA.
The trade with the Padres was also a young talent for veteran swap. Because of A-Gon's extremely friendly contract, the Rays had to give up a lot of potential talent; Barzilla and Koga being the main pieces. Because Cano also has 2 years on his deal, that means that 2B (as previously mentioned) most likely won't be available until 2017. So Terrero won't have to worry about Barzilla taking playing time away from him.

You could argue the main theme/take away from these trades is that the Rays are trying to make sure they can go out with a bang before their playoff window closes again.
.
.
.
Rays' trades used/allowed - 3/3 (Maxed out for 2015)
Rays' payroll/cap - 85090/92500

at no time did i exceed the salary cap during the trades. so this wasn't a quick swap to make sure no one noticed anything pushed under the rug. And the math is there if you so happen to audit it
