Johnny Cueto and Kelvim Escobar faced off in a game dictated by the bullpens. Things looked nice for the Rays as they were up 4-1 at one point in the game
until Percival coughed up 2 runs (3 total, 1 was given to Cueto). T. Miller came in to bridge the game to the 9th - possibly allowing A. Miller to enter the game - but
managed to load the bases with no outs. Successfully, T. Miller got 3 outs in a row without giving up any runs. The bottom of the 11th rolled up, and the first pitch
Gomes saw he roped it deep to left field but it sliced into foul territory. On the very next pitch he was able to keep it fair and produced a walk-off home run.

Percival's struggles continue as the veteran hasn't looked the same since becoming a general relief pitcher. Even with another year left on his contract, we are unsure if Percival's tenure with the Rays continues into next season.

The Rays were shutout again Dustin McGowan and the visiting Blue Jays. Edwin Jackson wasn't able to complete 3 innings - of his start - as he gave up 5 ER in 2.1 IP. Sonnanstine
came in to eat the rest of the game up throwing 5.1 shutout innings with 7 k's. He got into a little trouble in the 8th inning where an error led to the bases being loaded with 2 outs.
Andrew Miller came in and prevented any damage.

The Rays are now have a 3 game lead for the Wild Card spot but remain 5.5 behind the Yankees for the division lead. The Rays' first series in September will be home against the Yankees.
They travel to Yankee stadium during the 2nd week to play them again. Both series could be giant turning points for the Rays.

After the game, it was announced that Edwin Jackson has been removed from the starting rotation for Andy Sonnanstine. E-Jax will occupy the long relief role for now.

September call-ups have arrived and the Rays didn't hesitate to make any moves. The call ups are:

AAA ------> MLB
Hammel
Howell
Dohman
Birkins
Orvella
Johnson
Cannizaro
Haynes
Day
Terrero

The only 4 that remain are Mulder, Price, Riley, and Gemoll
Mulder still remains on the IL with a shoulder injury as it has been said he'll be out for the rest of 2008.
The Rays still look to develop Price and are not yet willing to get his feet wet.
Riley and Gemoll were both just drafted and may not be MLB ready.

After splitting the series 1-1, the rubber match between the Yankees and Rays. Ian Kennedy out dueled James Shields. Both teams are top 5 in offense and had a
rough time with flaunting that status. Posada started the scoring with a solo shot in the 2nd inning. The Rays decided to try out the newcomer relievers and they all performed
adequate enough for attempting to hold the high-powered Yankees' offense.

Starting off the final head-to-head regular season series, the Rays shutout the Yankees with a 2-0 win in New York. The Rays managed to get their runs
on the board from two separate lead off doubles, respectably by Crawford and Iwamura. Definitely worth a mention to the Rays' pitching staff for
posting a goose egg on the Yankees who average 6.5 runs per game. Kazmir improved to 14-4 and Percival has had a quiet come back dropping his ERA almost by
a full run in the past few weeks.

The Rays beat the Twins 5-4. After James gave up a run in the 4th inning, BJ Upton took it back by smacking a solo shot for his 36th
of the year. Chuck James was relatively having a smooth outing until he gave up a 3-run home run in the 6th inning where the Twins tied the game 4-4.
The Rays managed to challenge the Twins when BJ Upton, once again, responded to the Twins' offense by driving in the 5th run of the game.

Elliot Johnson hopes he'll get some playing time in September, but with the team chasing down a playoff spot, he's willing to do whatever it takes to help the team, even if it means riding the pine all month!

After clinching the Wild Card berth the night before, the Rays used this game as a majority rest day; as only 2 of their starting 9 remained in the lineup against Kenny Rogers and the Tigers (The 2 players being Iwamura and Aybar). This being the final series of the regular season. Rogers limited the Rays to a 4 hit shutout performance even though Wainwright pitched exceptionally well. We expect the Rays to have a rotation like this where the rest of the games involve the starters having a game off or so.

tbh not even sure how Rogers managed to throw 120 pitches and only started to show fatigue during the last at bat lmao
prolly from pudge having Good Catcher
