This is a log for my new season mode with the New York Yankees. I am trying out season mode again before I make my new team (which is still in the works and has its own log at viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1322. Yes, I know, shameless advertising).
Anyway...
Its the year Two Thousand and Eight and the end of the historic Yankees Stadium. The Yankee Franchise looks like its about to enter another slump or another golden age in the near future, and just about anything can tip it into one side or the other. Its a fragile time for this 26 World Series winner, and it will take a hell of a performance to come up top above the Red Socks. After Joe Torre has decided not to sign back, a new manager Joe Giradi has been chosen. With only a year of managing under his belt (as successful as it might have been), Joe Giradi is taking the reins of what will be one of the ultimate and greatest test of all times. Can the Yankees continue their play-off streak and rise on top of the Red Socks? Can they deal with the strange dissapearance of 99% of their money and having contracts that cost more then twice what they own? Can the rookies Joba, Ian Kennedy, Hughes, Blazin' Hot and "Lou Gherig" lead the team to a bright future? Only time will tell.
With plenty of quality pitchers and players fighting for a starter spot in the Majors, very few roles and positions are guarenteed. The Yankees will have various fielders rotating roles and a seven-man rotation to begin the game. No pitcher's job is safe and whoever outperforms each other gets a role in the 5 man rotation. The 6th best gets swingman . Joba Chamberlain will hopefully make the transition to starter as I stretch him out and hopefully raise his stanima. He will then be on the rotation later on (despite the fact that its cheating, he might recieve a little "extra help" from the powers that be in terms of stamina (but not too much).
The Temporary 6 Man Rotation is:
1. Cheng Ming Wang
2. Andy Peddite
3. Ian Kennedy
4. Mike Mussina
5. Phil Hughes
6. Jeff Kartsens
The Relievers (also subject to change)
Long Reliever: Which ever starter has the most rest.
Sixth Inning Man: Ohendorf (I will look for a trade to find a better man for this role)
Seventh Inning Man:
Blazin' Hot (future setup man/closer)
Eighth Inning Man (could become closer depending on Mariano's performance):
Joba Chamberlain
Closer (could be set-up man after coming off the worst year of his relieving career. He is underpowered as well):
Mariano Rivera
The Fielders:
While there are some questions, the fielders are much more likely to stay the same through the year.
1. Johnny Damon (LF)
2. Derek Jeter (SS)
3. Bobby Abreu (RF)
4. Alex Rodrigues (3B)
5. Jorge Posada (C)
6. Hideki Matsui (DH)
7. Robinson Cano (2B)
8. Melky Cabrera (CF)
9. Jason Giambi/Andy Phillips/Shelly Duncan/Lou Gherig (1B)
Obviously 1B is the real question
Bench:
5th outfielder (whoever is in Triple A or will obtain in a trade)
Back Up Catcher: Jose Molina
Back Up First Baseman: See spot 9 in the lineup
Back Up infielder: Andy Phillips/+Gonzalas/+Morgan Ensberg
I think that's everything. I will update generally once a week (in Season Mode, not real life) and list best and worst stats. I will also give extra details about Jobas Transition, The Fight for the Rotation, Trades Transition and Injuries, New Rookies (success, don't worry, I won't go crazy with this. I only add my Average-Above Average players), and the Fight for 1B.

Jorge Posada should bat 3rd (B con A pwr) and Cano should bat before Matsui.

But look at Posada's speed. I liked to have someone who can run in that spot. Also, Abreu is a clutch hitter and has long at bats. Posada has the second (I believe) most power to A-Rod followed by Lou Gherig (who I lost when my damn data got corrupted. I edited a back up player for him). Lou Gherig might be the future number 5 spot, but being a rookie I want to play it realistically.
I'll probably get into the first week tonight or tomorrow night.

The first pitch was thrown on and the season had started. Upon throwning a hard slider, David Ecstien hit it hard for the first hit off the first pitch of the season. In what would appear to be a bad omen, the jays ruined there chances as eckstein took off for second but was thrown out. Wang retired the next two batters.
The Yanks came up and following Eckstien, Damon ripped one down the foul line which went fair. It would have at least been a double and perhaps a triple, but the third base man made an incredible play forcing damon to stay at first. Damon also took off for second, but he was easily safe. Damons steal was all for naught however as Jeter lined out into a double play. Abreu came up next and hit a ball just like damons that made it past the third baseman giving abreu an easy double. A-Rod then came up and in 1 pitch put the Yanks ahead 2-0 with his first A-Bomb of the year. Jorge came up and hit one out of the park into the upper-deck. Cano came up and hit yet another one on the first pitch! The Yanks now are leading 4-0 with 4 straight base hits and 3 straight homeruns. Now comes Matsui to the plate. Matsui tries to follow suit but he hits it on the warning track. The inning ends as the Yanks pounded Halladay for 4 runs.
(having little time left and wanting to watch the Yankee game, I skipped to the eighth and the Yanks were losing 5-4 in the bottom of the 7th with cabrera batting and betimit on first. The score stayed the same and its now the bottom of the ninth)
B.J. Ryan is attempting to get the same. Jeter hits the first pitch for a single and then steals second. Abreu is up. He hits one right off the pitcher that bounces off his glove and right in front of one. A slick fielder, Ryan quickly recovers and tries to throw the over-agressive running Jeter out at third. Jeter barely makes it and now its first and third no outs and A-Rods up. He needs a sack-fly to tie it up.
A-RODS HIT ONE HIGH! ITS DOWN THE LINE, IF ITS FAIR, THE YANKS won! AND IT"S GONE, INTO THE UPPDER DECK AND THE YANKS WIN! HE'S WON THE GAME AND THE YANKS HAVE THE FIRST MLB WALK-OFF OF THE YEAR!

Reminds me of a dairy queen commercial. "I got the cake!" Everybody: Wow, awesome and other things like that. Other guy walks in and says "I got forks!" One guy say "Yay." quietly. It's funny because I know so many people who would do that in real life.

Getting back on topic. I'm still not going to cheer for the yankees. I will however, click on this topic whenever there is a new post.
