Sorry this will be a bit of a rant...

In my first season with the Yankees, here's a list of all the deals I had to make just to get to the point where I wasn't bleeding cash every month:

Mussina for Erik Bedard (Then shipped Bedard plus cash to SF for Lincecum)
Giambi for Travis Hafner
Posada for Brian McCann
Pavano for Matt Garza
Abreu for BJ Upton
Matsui for Nick Markakis
Damon for Ryan Braun
Rivera for Fernando Cabrera
Farnsworth + cash for Pat Neshek

So basically the only "real" Yankees I still have are A-Rod, Jeter, Pettitte, Hughes, Chamberlain and Melky Cabrera (who's days in pinstripes appear numbered anyway), plus a couple more lower end relief pitchers. My team salary went from 199000 down to 84000 but the team barely resembles it's real world counterpart. I want to get Sabathia and Burnett now but there's no way it's going to happen because of the salary. Why am I forced to have the same budget as the likes of Tampa and Milwaukee? Why does MLBPP not know anything about the Steinbrenners? Even at 84000 I have to play every game and average around 800 points worth of bonuses to break even.

I think I made some good deals in the above list, but it's beside the point. I didn't want to make any of those deals. I like the Yankees just the way they are thank you very much (except Pavano maybe), and I would like to play with the real Yankees without going bankrupt in year 1.

Do you know that there is a season boost. In the shop, you can buy season points. So, at the start of the season, you have the option to get the boost. IT would be a boost of 50K. Win the world series and you are safe. Make your you trade away all the high salary people. Like trade A-Rod and Jeter for David Wright and Jose Reyes, if its a 3 star, ask for cash till its the minimum and S/L for the trade to be sucessful, this always works like a charm.

A-Rod should always be traded because of the salary... I suppose, if you had the time, you could make all the players in success mode. Then they will be only 2000.

I'd agree with you
but as DrMario said, you could get a 50k boost
Average 800x162 (games): 129600
150000 (initial salary)+129600 (Money from games)=279600 (total)-199000 (salary)
=80600 (money left), if you got a sweep in each postseason, and win the world series (regardless of sweep), you got, 180600 (+100k)
More than the budget
During the offseason, lower their contracts as low as possible

i don't see why this tactics would ever fail me, they never did

I always keep Rivera and Abreu. You didn't trade igawa. I always trade Pavano for cash, and sometimes the same with Giambi. Then I bring in my success mode first basemen. I also sign a few cheap free-agent relievers. I find I can always earn at least 15,000 points each season on powerful, and that lowers my contract below that.

Trade Abreu for Kosuke Fukudome. Fukudome is younger, cheaper, and has a long contract. You can also trade Jeter for Hanley Ramirez, A-Rod for Ryan Zimmerman, Mussina/Pettitte for BJ Upton, Damon for Juan Pierre, Posada for Russell Martin, Mariano for Huston Street, etc.

OK how does this season boost thing work? Do you have to do it before you start the season? I tried it last night - went into the Shop, bought all 3 season boost items, then went into my season. I had the same amount of points as before. I haven't ever bought anything in the shop before so I have like 350,000 points to blow so I'd love it if some of those could go towards my payroll.

Winning the world series is all but a given for me, since I rarely lose these days so the 50K will be a big help for that.

To address all of the suggested trades in this thread - I know there are lots of good deals to make for younger, cheaper players. That's what I did and I now have a younger cheaper team that is still pretty good ability wise. My point is (and the reason I started the topic) is that I would just like to keep all the old, expensive players that are actually real life Yankees. A-Rod costs 27000, Jeter is 23000 or something which is a ton. I don't care. Everybody complains that there are tons of Yankees who are overpaid, past their prime, under achieving, whatever else. They are probably right. But these players are still the Yankees and they are still the players I want to play with and it is simply not possible to do.

A-Rod for Tex, if you can make that trade - do it!

1. You have to start a new season for the boost to take effect.
2. As mentioned earlier, you could spend time in success mode making the Yankee players you want. They will cost about 2000 per season.
