Brian Wolfe got a save for me in a 17-1 win.
I didn't score 15 runs in the 9th inning either.
Has this happened to anybody else?
i have proof too.

I read somewhere that you can get a save by pitching 3 innings.

This was covered in an old post about the game not correctly crediting a save in some qualifying situations that involve multiple innings.

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=337&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

(The game seems to credit saves correctly if the guy enters the game with the tying run on base, at bat, or on deck. I've had my share of cheap one-out saves.)

The three-inning save isn't commonly known today since most relievers only pitch one inning at a time. It was more common during the days of Rollie Fingers, Goose Gossage, and Bruce Sutter.

The best recent example of the three-inning save has got to belong to Wes Littleton. He entered a game to pitch the 7th inning with the Rangers up 14-3. He finished the game earning a save, even though the final score was 30-3. It was just a little reminder that the save is largely a worthless statistic.

thanks.
i guess that david wrong will be able to get 30+ saves then. (C stamina for a closer has it's advantages!)

Sure -- I got 40 saves with a drafted pitcher (with low B stamina). I played a lot of close games that season and had 2-4 save opportunities a week. I could have had 50+ saves, but I gave other relievers some of the opportunities to avoid overusing my closer, and then I sent him down to AAA in September to rest him for the postseason.

I was miffed that I didn't get reliever of the month more often. There were times that no reliever was selected instead of mine. I think some of those one-out saves screwed with a minimum innings requirement.

I wonder if the game would credit a pitcher with a zero-pitch save (getting an out from a pickoff throw).
