The Pirates have constiently been in the pits of the NL Central for a few years. However, the team has been sold to a Mr. Grady Little. Yes, the Grady Little every Boston fan knows and loves. He was able to muster up a large sum of cash to purchase the team from the former owner. Many fans are upset, but they have high hopes for the team now and intend to cling to them.

Little was unable to answer any questions, but the new Pirates' GM had this to say:

"The deal has gone through - Little is now officially the Pirates' Owner. We intend on building a solid, young team. We'll be trading away some fan favorites. We even have a trade on the table right now involving Jason Bay. I can't say who we are trying to obtain, or what team the player is on, but I can say this trade helps us very, very much. Thank you."

As one would imagine, trading away Jason Bay will make tons of people mad. Andrew Relink, however, has assured us the trade will be fair for both ends and will keep the fans happy. We can only hope that's true, especially since the franchise has been struggling for years.

Andrew Relink and Grady Little Announce Details of Bay Trade

This morning Andrew and Grady held a joint press confrence announcing their satisfaction with the trade which has just gone through. In a blockbuster, the Pirates acquire Cole Hammels! The trade really bolsters the Pirates young, talented pitching staff. Cole is expected to start opening day against the Braves.

In other news, the Pirates have also acquired Mike Jacobs and Cody Ross from the Marlins. Pirates fans have showed how unsatisfied they are with this trade, especially since they are giving up Andy LaRoche and a player to be named later.

PIRATES MAKE SOME MOVES BEFORE THE SEASON STARTS

Andrew ReLink has been the mastermind behind rebuilding the Pirates Organization. He started by sending Jason Bay away for Cole Hamels, then by sending away Adam LaRoche and Doug Mitsuwinkzi (Sp?) to the Marlins for young Mike Jacobs and Cody Ross.

Then, before the day was out, made another move that shocked the baseball world. He acquired Chuck James, a hard throwing left hander in free agency. To make room for him on the roster, he sent Franquelis Osoria down. This makes the Pirates opening day line up look like this:

Batting

1.) Freddy Sanchez - 2B
2.) Chris Duffy - CF
3.) Cody Ross - LF
4.) Mike Jacobs - 1B
5.) Xavier Nady - RF
6.) Jose Bautista - 3B
7.) Ronny Paulino - C
8.) Jack Wilson - SS
9.) Pitcher

If there's a DH rule in affect, there line up looks like this:

1.) Freddy Sanchez - 2B
2.) Chris Duffy - CF
3.) Cody Ross - LF
4.) Mike Jacobs - 1B
5.) Xavier Nady - RF
6.) Jose Bautista - 3B
7.) Ronny Paulino - C
8.) Luis Rivera - DH
9.) Jack Wilson - SS

On the bench they have

1.) Ryan Doumit - C
2.) Luis Rivera - 2B
3.) Chris Gomez - SS
4.) Nyjer Morgan - LF
5.) Nate McLouth - CF

Pitching

1.) Hamels
2.) Chuck James
3.) Tom Gorzelanny
4.) Ian Snell
5.) Paul Maholm
6.) Zach Duke

RP - John Van Benschoton
RP - Phil Dumatrait
RP - Tyler Yates
RP - Damaso Marte
RP - John Grabow
Closer - Matt Capps

Triple AAA

Franquelis Osoria - P
Evan Meek - P
Great Matsui - P
Great Bennett - P
Brian Bixler - SS
Great Spreir - RF
Great Suzuki - RF

BAD NEWS PIRATES, UNABLE TO WIN DESPITE BIG FIRST GAME

The Braves proved to be a fearsome opponent for the Pirates, as the game entered the eleventh inning.

Player of the Game:

Image

Mark Texeria - Getting a walk off home run off of Dumatrait in the 11th to end the game.

The box score looked like this:

Pirates: 13 | 30 | 0
Braves: 14 | 22 | 0

Hamels, the Pirates ace, was unable to get the job done, giving up two long ones to Brave's leadoff man, Kelly Johnson. He went 5 1/3 of an inning, giving up eight hits, striking out four, and letting five runs slip by. Certaintly not the performance expected of an ace.

Cody Ross, however, had a remarkable performance. He went six for seven, with no big hits. Jack Wilson drove in the tying run twice, and Freddy Sanchez was able to drive the go ahead run in, in the 11th.

As for tomorrow's game, the Braves are starting Tim Hudson, who will duke it out with Pirates pitcher, Chuck James.

Image vs. Image

James, a hard throwing lefty, is expected to lose. On the other hand, Pirates officials look optimistic and are expecting big, big things from Cody Ross and hopefully, Mike Jacobs. On the other hand, Braves' fans everywhere our saying the player to look out for is Mark Texeria.

So, who will do better? Tex, Jacobs, or Ross?

Image Ross, Image Texeria, or Image Mike Jacobs?

I'll follow dr k. I've always loved logs with real teams
And it's ok to lose a few game. With teams like the Pirates, you have to wait a few years to win

PIRATES WIN! PIRATES WIN! FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON!

Xavier Nady was incredible! He was able to knock three in in the bottom of the first. The Braves also didn't know what hit them when it came to Chuck James' pitching! He was able to strike out a remarkable fourteen batters in his first ever start for the Pirates. He gave up one run and two hits in a course of 7 2/3 innings.

Then, another star rose from the ashes of this young team. John Grabow was able to pick up the save, giving up two hits, striking out two, and giving up no runs.

The final score was 3-1. Pirates won, duh.

Image
Xavier Nady was moved to the clean up spot, knocking struggling Jacobs down to fifth. Pirates fans are happy with the move...

In other news...

Pirates' Fans are calling LaRoche for Jacobs the worst trade in club history. LaRoche has been able to knock five balls out of the park this year, compared to Jacobs' three. Jacobs, who has started fourty five games, is batting .217 compared to Laroche's .298. Andrew ReLink and Grady Little keep defending the trade, saying it'll work out.

Players of the Month

Xavier Nady took home the Pirates' Slugger of the Month award for the month of April. He had fifteen homeruns, highest on the team, and was batting .368. Cody Ross took home Fielder of the Month and since has been consistent in the field, gunning down runners trying to score.

1.5 games out of first

The Pirates are 1.5 games out of first, halfway through the month of May. They are currently fourth in the NL Central with a record of 25-20. The Brewers are in first and guess who they get to play next...

Next Game

Gallardo will get the start for the Brewers which means the pitching matchup will be:

Image Gallardo vs. Image Ian Snell.

Pirates are expected to win this game. The player to watch out for will be Xavier Nady. He's been hot lately and is expected by Pirates Officials to carry the team. Though, they've been wrong before...
