The Peg-Legs haven't won a World Series since 1979, when Chuck Tanner was the manager. Tanner wasn't the greatest manager, and most of that success can be contributed to Willie Stargel and Dave Parker. Though, it's a new ERA in Pittsburgh. We no longer sing "We are family", but we pray we finish out of last place. We also pray that Neal Huntington begins to sign some of the greatest players of this century, to propel the Buccos to the top!

Calm down... John Russel is not the manager for the Pirates anymore. He was fired five days before the season would begin. His replacement is a man by the name of Donald Eastwood. Eastwood is a politician, a lawyer, and a hothead. He knows the sport well though, and will as he says, propel the "worst team in the MLB" to the top of the NL Central.

I'm following dude can't wait. I know this is the 3rd pirates log but its still fun to follow these kinds of logs because of all of the kind of positions these guys can play, like Nady can play 1st, Bautista can play in the outfield, McClouth in center or right, Sanchez can player short or 3rd base, Doumit can play 1st or outfield and etc

And a few questions too. 1.) is this going to be a log where you destroy the rosters and get stacked 2.) is this a story or the normal type 3.) are these rosters updated and 4.) can you post lineups and rotation later if you have time

This will have updated rosters. I'll post my lineup and rotation soon, and I do not intend on destroying the rosters. I hate that and makes it unrealistic. I checked out the last Buc's log and he had too many players which would never, ever want to play for the Pirates.

Amem about realisticism. I really like realistic logs. It's good when you have rosters that arent going to make you 150-12 and win the world series every year

Donald Eastwood recently gave a glimpse of the Pittsburgh Pirates' starting rotation and bullpen. Not much has changed since last year, but he has made a fair amount of changes:

1.) Paul Maholm - LHP
2.) Ian Snell - RHP
3.) Zach Duke - LHP
4.) Craig Hansen - RHP
5.) Tom Gorzelanny - LHP

Phil Dumatrait - LHP
Tyler Yates - RHP
Ross Ohlendorf - RHP
John Grabow - LHP
Jeff Karstens - RHP
Denny Bautista - RHP
Matt Capps - RHP

He has a deadly pattern going in the rotation - lefty, righty, lefty, righty, and finally another lefty. If he is able to use the talent correctly, the Buccos have a very potent rotation. Also, a copy of his lineup has been obtained. Though, it isn't that fun to look at, compared to other teams in the division:

1.) Freddy Sanchez - 2B
2.) Nate McLouth - CF
3.) Jack Wilson - SS
4.) Adam LaRoche - 1B
5.) Brandon Moss - RF
6.) Ryan Doumit - C
7.) Steve Pearce - LF
8.) Andy LaRoche - 3B
9.) Pitcher

The only real concern with the lineup is the decision to let Brandon Moss go ahead and bat ahead of Ryan Doumit. It can, and probably will work out, but it is a concern to most fans. We also have the lineup present for when there is a Designated Hitter in the lineup:

1.) Freddy Sanchez - 2B
2.) Nate McLouth - CF
3.) Doug Mientkiewicz - 1B
4.) Adam LaRoche - DH
5.) Jack Wilson - SS
6.) Ryan Doumit - C
7.) Brandon Moss - RF
8.) Steve Pearce - LF
9.) Andy LaRoche - 3B

The concern of letting Moss go ahead of Doumit is addressed in this lineup and it also moves a better fielder to first base, while keeping and adding another powerful bat.

Nice job
And is Moss edited because in this game he only has like F power and not alot of teams have an F power guy batting in the middle of the order

I didn't edit him, so he still has his "F" power. Speaking of people with F and G ratings, do you have any clue about who Great Bennett is? I've limited it down to Sean Burnett and Virgil Vasquez.

just a question: who are you planning to trade for better players, and who do you plan to keep for "realism"?

I might have some suggestions :D

I plan on trading an aging Jason Michaels away for a prospect in the near future. Probably around the trading deadline, I'll shoot for a drafted rookie or Ryan Raburn. Otherwise, everyone else will be staying.

It can't be Vazquez because he was in a few different minor leauge affiltrations when this game was made. and it can't be sean burnett because he's a left-hander. According to the Greats thread, he is Ty Taubemien or something liek that but I'd just make him Virgil Vazquez
And in practice mode, try to bring Morgan's speed up because he's pretty fast in real life and get moss to 3 trajectory so then he can hit maybe 10-15 homeruns a season even with F power

 if Longball helped you with trades then your lineup would end up like:

C- Posada
1B- Pujols
2B- Utley
SS- Hanley
3B- Wright
OF- Hamilton
OF- Beltran
OF- Ichiro

Posada? He's too old and costs too much. Can I have Doumit instead?

There is a scheduled match up between the Atlanta Braves and the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight at beautiful Turner Field. The outcome is unknown at this point, and no one is placing any real bets on the game, especially since teams usually play harder for a new manager. The sport, like all sports, is tough and the Braves have lost a pitcher to injury early on in the season, last night in fact, so Hampton won't be facing the Pirates. Tom Glavine will be, though, and we all know what he can do on the mound; going against a powerful Braves offense will be Paul Maholm. He should do alright, but we'll remain optimistic and hope he can throw a no-hitter...

The starting lineups for both teams should be announced soon. It should appear lopsided on paper.

I only have my roster updated, and that's not even up-to-date, but it is good enough for me. The Braves still have Teixeira and such, so we should start crying now.
