I wanted to clear salary space (i'm basically right on it with the giants), so i was going to trade roy oswalt and P chris young, along with another guy, to clear space.
I also need/want a second baseman, Jorge Cantu (edited, DBDDC, not sure on that last one) is my starter.
which of these trades should I try for? all are 3 stars except this first one.
Ro is Oswalt, CY is Young.
When I say "I save", that's the salary I save. Just clarifying...

I send:
RO+CY+Cantu
I get: Meche (edited, B control, slightly better slider)+ Harden + Uggla + 9999 P
I save 6000

I send: RO+CY+Cantu
I get: Willis + Wakefield + Kelly Johnson + 11111 P
I save 6000

I send: RO+CY+Janssen+44444 P
I get: King Felix + Neshek + edited James Shields
I save 13000

I send: RO+CY+Janssen+20000 P
I get: edited Hamels (5 cb, 6 chg, control a bit up) + Shawn (Scott?) Baker + Schoenweis
I save 15600

I send: RO+CY+Janssen+40000
I get: Peavy + Heilman + Belisle
I save 11800

I send: RO+CY+Janssen+34343 P
I get: Burnett + edited Wellemeyer (4 chg and 4 slv, ctrl C, stam A) + Okajima
I save 5800

I send: RO+CY+Cantu
I get: Sheets + Livan Hernandez + Polanco + 12121 P
I save nothing

I'm probably not gonna do the last one or the third-to-last one (with Peavy), so what should I do?
edit: i'm now fine with the last one, not fine with the third one (with felix)

Its tough to tell the best, but I think the worst would be the Wakefield, Willis and Kelly Johnson. Willis isn't that good in this game, Wakefield will be down to about F control and B stamina in the second year, only to get worse. And Johnson is probably your best of the three

thanks.
geeky as i am (and bored as i was, i couldn't play wii), i decided to just lay there and analyze each trade, the value i'm getting for each player.

The Hamels one was best, actually, and the first one was second best.
The worst trade was the one with Peavy, though. (Matt Belisle sucks. Period.)

Thanks again, and hamels IS a beast, isn't he?
btw, good point on wakefield, jacob.

Ouch. Redsox fan dissing the same guy who nearly threw a no-hitter for your club yesterday.

I disagree. EVERY season mode I've completed in MLB PP 2008 has had Wakefield as a member of the starting pitching staff. Why? As long as the guy isn't in purple face mode, he's nearly unhittable. If you keep the outfield up and only throw knuckleballs that hit the very bottom of the strikezone, the CPU cannot do anything but hit shallow pop-ups to the outfield. In my opinion, he's one of the best--and most underrated--pitchers in this game.

Additionally, Kelly Johnson seems like a nice cheap option at 2nd base who can hit for power. Pedroia and Uggla are great players who also fit that mold, but you may want to look at Brandon Phillips too. He's got a crazy cheap contract, at something like 680 points over 4 years(!), and is excellent against lefty pitchers.

Willis in the game is actually pretty good too, although I'd be hesitant to trade Chris Young for him considering the large gap in payroll. I don't remember what Dontrelle makes, but I can promise it's nowhere near the 6000 points that Chris Young gets. Additionally, Chris Young has "Consistency 4" on his profile, which is harder to find for a pitcher at that price. John Lackey and Dan Haren are a couple of other affordable, consistent pitchers you may also want to consider.

But what if Oswalt matched up with Willis and Young matched up with Wake?
I also forgot that my salary is 5000 UNDER the limit, meaning that with this trade I can afford to get somebody like Pujols or Adam Dunn (to replace Braun)

Anyways, my analysis in a nutshell:
#1: Oswalt = Meche
C. Young = Harden
Cantu < Uggla
Getting the points helps, not saving much salary though.
Also, it's two stars, would require a bit more effort.

#2: RO > Willis
CY > Wake (Young's abilities help)
JC < Johnson
The points help, but again not much salary saved.

#3: RO < Felix
CY = Shields
Janssen < Neshek
Saving 13000 really helps, but paying over half my remaining Owner points? Ugh.

#4: RO < Hamels
CY = Baker (Whose first name is Scott, not Shawn)
CJ < Schoenweis (who apparently took 'roids, along with two crappy players and Troy Glaus)
Saving 15600 leaves me room to get anybody, and 20000 isn't that bad of a price.

#5: RO < Peavy
CY >>>>>>>> Belisle (OK, not that much, but you get my point)
CJ < Heilman
Saving quite a bit, but paying 40000 is pretty hefty.

#6: RO = Burnett (though that knuckle-curve is insane)
CY = Wellemeyer (same, but with the slurve)
CJ < Okajima
Paying 34343 is OK, not saving much...

#7: RO = Sheets (Durability doesn't matter in this game   )
CY < L. Hernandez (Hernandez has more pitches that are as good as Young's, just as good basic stats [e.g. ctrl, top spd])
JC < Polanco (wanted edited Asdrubal Cabrera (DDCBA), they wouldn't trade him for anything. gonna hafta wait 5-6 years...)
Getting all those points is fantastic, but I'm literally not saving anything.

comments? questions?

You could:

try Roy Oswalt for Felix straight up.

try the fifth one, minus Belisle and heilman and with other players, see what's the best deal you can make.

Otherwise, go with #4.
