Phoenix Deserts Preview to 2009

Well, Spring Training is over and it's time to buckle down and focus on the long awaited 2009 season for the Phoenix Deserts. They will look to get another AL Central crown after an 85-77 record last year after a one game playoff victory over the White Sox and after a game 5 loss in the Division series to the Yankees. They're just about the same team as last year except Nomar is gone along with Alex Solano and Joel Hayes. This year they have Scott Moore, Dennis Sarfate, and Brandon Fahey now lurking in the wings of AAA along with Chuck James and Cunnane. Tolls has been named as the final bench spot on the 25 man roster and was picked over Fahey who can also play shortstop. Fahey will be sure to get a chance if Toll's struggles like he did with his .202 average last year. After a good performance from Nixon out of the pen of the ALDS, the Deserts will hope he's ready to rebound and they will also hope for Ikari and Chavez to turn it around while Davis hopes to perform as well as last year. Clemente is still the closer and will vie for a second straight all-star game. My prediction is a 92-70 record atop of the AL central because I feel that Chavez, Nixon and Ikari will rebound from last year.

Homeruns down White Sox in opening day victory

Homeruns were the story today in a 3-2 win over rival White Sox. Thome it started with a solo homerun in the 2nd which made it 1-0. But Cooper later made is 2-1 with a two-run homerun and then Smith followed with a solo shot to make it 3-1. In the 9th after an error, Konerko scored on a one-out single by Thome and pinch runner Brent Lillibridge stole second to put the tying run on second but Pierzynski grounded out to end the threat and the game.

Phoenix sweep ChiSox with comeback win

The Deserts have started off great with a 4-0 record and most importantly, beating the white sox. They managed to win on Sunday after Williamson gave up 3 runs to give the Sox a 4-3 lead in the 8th but Smith tied it off Jenks with a homerun in the 9th, it was his 2nd of the day and 4th of the season. A few innings later, Cooper hit his 2nd homerun of the season(only his 3rd hit) which gave them a lead. Clemente had a 1-2-3 inning and it gave them the 4 game sweep in US Cellular Field. Nixon was one of the stories's going 6 innings and only allowing a run which now Phoenix is hopeful that this can translate into success.

Up next...

The Deserts go to Kansas City
The Deserts go to Minnesota after
Then the Deserts finally have their home opener vs the Kansas City Royals

Deserts coasts to hot April despite some players struggles

The Deserts had an odd month but ended with a 17-11 mark. It is hard to figure how they were this good considering that Caroll and Hawk are not doing well, Cooper is only batting .231, Chavez is doing bad, and Clemente isn't the same but they have been able to win. The bullpen has been lights out and the starters have done well enough for a 17 win month. Smith and House are also suprises considering that they are not average hitters. Right now another suprise is that they are game ahead of the team that lost 100 games last year in the KC Royals

Caroll | .223 AVG | 2 HR
Hawk | .236 AVG | 1 HR
Cooper | .231 AVG | 8 HR
Smith | .309 AVG | 14 HR
House | .314 AVG | 6 HR
Chavez | .216 AVG | 2 HR
Gonzalez | .259 AVG | 0 HR
Davis | .295 AVG | 2 HR
Ikari | .291 AVG |3 HR

Towers | 3.09 ERA | 3-1
Blanco | 4.11 ERA | 4-1
Nixon | 4.20 ERA | 0-2
Valentin | 3.38 ERA | 2-2
Massett | 4.68 ERA | 3-1

Williamson | 2.95 ERA
Bowie | 0.66 ERA
Darvish | 3.27 ERA
Thompson | 4.70 ERA
Niekro | 0.00 ERA(4 IP)
Petit | 0.90 ERA
Clemente | 4.66 ERA | 5-5 : SV/SVO

And this will be my last update for awhile

Post subject:  Re: The 10 Year Dynasty | Phoenix Deserts Franchise Log

There's no need to have a major update but I went 17-11 in May to be 4 games ahead of the suprising Royals
Draft day will be held this month and I'll be around the middle of the pack even though I made the playoffs last year

And guys, I'm very sorry to say that I forgot to turn F/A's on so no F/A's for this year, someone has to remind me during spring training to turn them on

Here are the division leaders, some are very suprising, ESPECIALLY the AL east

AL East | Image | Baltimore Orioles

NL East | Image|Atlanta Braves

AL Central |Image | Phoenix Deserts

NL Central |Image| Milwaukee Brewers

AL West | Image|Los Angeles Angels

NL West | Image|Los Angeles Dodgers

AL Wild Card | Image|New York Yankees

NL Wild Card |ImageImageImage|3 Tied: Pittsburg Pirates, New York Mets and Arizona DiamondBacks

So as you can see there are suprises. The Orioles are leading the AL East, the Royals are only 3 GB the Yankees for the WC and ar eonly 4 back of Phoenix, Pittsburg is fighting for a wild card spot, and the Braves can be considered a suprise too

Draft 2009

Phoenix picked 22nd in the draft and got 2 good enough players. First they got a 3B named Acuna and second they got a lefty with great potential named Crabtree who has breaking balls that could be better than Johan Santana

Acuna- 3B
Switch hitter / Throws Righty
F Contact
D Power
3 Trajectory
G run speed
E arm
D fielding

Crabtree- P
Throws Lefty / Bats righty
90 MPH top speed
G control
D Stamina
Level 5 Curveball
Level 5 Forkball

Crabtree has a future if he can get his control fixed which will take 2-3 years...
But these are BY FAR the best breaking balls I've ever gotten

June in Review | Deserts take over Central

Last year's critisism was that Phoenix was not able to take out the White Sox and take over the Central, in June they might've just taken them out. They right now hold a 13 game lead over the ChiSox thanks to a 20-6 surge in June and a 12-3 mark in interleague(there is still 3 games left in July). They own the best record in the MLB at 54-28 and will look to stay hot going into July. As for all-star voting, Smith is leading the MLB in homeruns and is STILL not even on the ballot while House is in 3rd place for catchers. As for pitching, Towers was a mighty tower to this rotation as he won the pitcher of the month award in June with a 5-0 record and an amazing 0.97 ERA. If you look at his stats, he looks like a favorite to start the all-star game in St. Louis, here's a look at his stats and rankings in the American League down below.

Jess Tower- SP

1.97 ERA | 1st in AL

11 Wins | 1st in AL

112 Strikouts | 3rd in AL

109 IP | T-1st in AL

3 Shutouts | T-1st in AL

11 Quality starts | 2nd in AL
