Also, just curious but, why is ChiCubs log lauded as the best?

Do you have a reason why it shouldn't? I have a couple reasons why it should, but I'm curious as to why you ask.

It doesn't really stand out for anything other than sheer length. It's definitely a good log, but certainly not the best.

What would you say is the best then?

The best, eh? Well, I would have to say that I really enjoy dtiger's Gunmen log, PPJ's Slayers, Paul's Stranglers, and ERISA's County.

There isn't really one that's the absolute "best."

I'd have to go with the Phoenix Rattlers as the best.

There's no way I can ever say the Stranglers or the Gunmen could ever be the best logs, simply because they follow formats I'm not a huge fan of. And that is having a story, with a team on the side. However, Paul does earn points for being extremely funny, even if I don't know the majority of the characters. I've already given my opinions on the Slayers on the and how I love them. ERISA had a pretty good log, although the destroying of the AI that first season, plus a whole lot of training, let to an unbelievably stacked team. The analysis of the draft and whatnot was pretty cool and creative though.

Yeah I hear that Paul guy is pretty cool.

I really liked Jacobye's Pirates log. Also the Knights, Slayers, Gunmen, Country (though IMO the Hickories are shaping up to be better) and this log gets forgotten, but Brewers Honolulu Sluggers. His stuff with Bob Chambers was an early inspiration for the player update.

I'm so far liking the Stranglers and the Gunmen logs, I've started a story first, then games log as well, as you can see with the Marlins.

I don't know, Skittles, I wouldn't say the Gunmen are "on the side" of the log. Ever since the season started I've been doing more game/series preview updates than story updates.

And I can't say I understand preferring the game-only logs, but to each his own.

I see. I'm a story guy meself, so I feel like they (when at least decent stories) enhance the log. Having only games just seems so cookie-cutter and run-of-the-mill. To each their own, I suppose

I'm curious as to why you think the Royals log was the best, still, though

I'm reading a log because I want to see how that team changes and evolves. I want to see how the person constructs the team, and how they change it as the seasons go by. How they adjust to the rest of the league, how they decide to go about trades and free agency, and how they decide when to call up prospects.

If I wanted a story, I'd read a book. A great log tells its own story through the team.

And I think the Royals because it had the length (which is easily the most important thing to me, and it's also pretty rare), it was incredibly clean and organized, it had no filler, and did a great job recapping each game. It wasn't too lengthy, just a few sentences detailing the scoring plays, plus a partial box score. However, I did think they had too big of a jump from year two to three.

AgentP, I only have one gripe with your Red Sox log, and that's that you gave 90% of your roster A potential, so they're essentially all going to be superstars, and I suppose there's one more thing I don't like, you got rid of the whole roster except two players? Why didn't you get rid of those guys too? If you're going to make such a drastic move I think you should do everyone.

Thanks for the feedback!

I didn't have a choice - when you create a player, he gets A potential, and I was not aware of this until I made the list of players. I didn't want to trade JBJ because he's a valuable prospect/trade chip, and Snyder's one of my favorite players, so I kept him for that reason.

You were actually the main focus when I complained about overpowered teams. ;)

I think I was thinking of them and the Mendenhals, but I still liked the Mendenhals just because so many different people got to have their players on the team. It must have been somewhat time consuming to enter the passwords. Although now that I think of it, it would probably be nothing compared to making 30 arrange teams.

And all the talk about story makes me wonder, would anyone consider the Venom log as "having a story"? I mean, it's like 99% focused on just the team, but there are some updates that have story, most notably that giant "Gary" thing. I guess even the story-related updates there were directly related to the team, not like I was just throwing out irrelevant backstory (not that there's anything wrong with it, I just don't tend to care about it a lot unless it's really well done).

Teehee, yeah. I suppose so. :)

And paul, I didn't know that my log influenced you so much! Now I feel bad that I deleted it, and couldn't finish. :( Oh well, it makes me happy and proud to see that me writing that log inspired you to write THE Stranglers log. :) It really does mean a lot to me. :)

And I feel obliged to include a story when I write logs, especially when I see all these guys saying they like stories better, but I just can't think of any ideas on how to make the story go.

Also, I love ERISADude's new idea for his log, with the editing of the scrubs.

Yeah, I remember before joining the forums I read the Sluggers and thought it was great.

But I had never seen a log focused solely on the players before so I was like "why not"
