Ice Wolves Bounce Back From Home Run to Beat Orioles
Anchorage-- Abraham was cruising along in an attempt to get his first win of the season. That all changed when Luke Scott crushed a 469 foot homerun off of him, his third of the year (all at Golden Apples Stadium). "You know that with one mistake when you're up 1-0, that could mean the game" said Abraham. "But I'm glad we were able to come back." The Ice Wolves, having used most of their bullpen in the past few games, had to rely on the usually unreliable Duff, but he pitched his way to his first win of the season. "We know that he has it in him, so that's why I keep throwing him out their" said manager Ronald Miller. The Ice Wolves got their first run of the game when Fussell got an RBI single off pitcher Daniel Cabrera. In the bottom of the 7th inning with two outs, Abraham gave up the home run to Luke Scott to tie it. However, in the bottom of the 8th inning, the Ice Wolves started getting their offense going against Danys Baez (who is 1-4 against the Ice Wolves) Tovar doubled and Arellano tripled him home. Fussell added another run with his own RBI single (his second) to give them a 3-1 lead. Duff pitched through singles by Brian Roberts and Nick Markakis to get his first win in the major leagues.

Final Score:
Orioles: 1
Ice Wolves: 3

WP- Duff (1-3)| LP- Baez (1-5)| SV: None
HR: Scott (3)

D. Cabrera: 7 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 8 K
Scott: 1-4, HR, RBI, SO

Abraham: 6.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 6 K
Arellano (Player of the Game): 1-4, 3B, R, RBI, SO
Fussell: 2-4, 2 RBI, SO

Ice Wolves Lose Despite Good Pitching Performance by Gautreau
Anchorage-- Gautreau is going to have to get used to the fact that being on an expansion team, he is not going to get much run support. "He had only one tough inning, and even that wasn't a bad inning" said manager Ronald Miller. "You know, we just left way too many guys on base." The Ice Wolves, who have had problems with leaving runners on base all year, left 12 runners on base along with grounding into two double plays and three forceouts. In the top of the second, Gautreau gave up singles to Aubrey Huff, Luke Scott, and Ramon Hernandez (who got the RBI), to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead. That's all the offense Jeremy Guthrie would get, who, despite giving up 6 hits, pitched a complete game shutout, while effectively getting hitters to ground out and strikeout. He got Christian to ground into a double play in the 3rd, and later in the 9th used the ground ball. Bouknight got a lead off single, but Tovar grounded into a forceout, and Garrett House grounded into a double play, as the Orioles won the game 1-0. "We won't win every game" said Miller. "But we should have won this one."

Final Score:
Orioles: 1
Ice Wolves: 0

WP- Guthrie (2-2)| LP- Gautreau (0-2)| SV: None
HR: None

Guthrie: 9 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 6 K
R. Hernandez: 1-3, RBI

Gautreau: 5 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 3 K
Tovar: 1-4, SO

Well, to do it humanely I guess you just do it without causing unnecessary harm to any animals.

Actually A-Rod hit 14 Home Runs in April of 2007, so it is possible.

Ice Wolves Fielders Report
by an Ice Wolves Scout

SS- Christian
Notable Stats: .197 BA, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 41 SO, 46-7 GO to AO, .425 OPS, 2 E, .984 FPCT, 4.39 RF

Description: Although Christian seems to be an absolute disaster at the plate, he has raised his average over 100 points since halfway through April. The main reason for his .197 average is because he strikes out and grounds out too much. However, the real story is his defense, which has been phenomenal. He has fantastic range at shortstop, and has only made 2 errors. "He saves runs with his glove, so we are not too worried about his bat" said manager Ronald Miller.

DH- Bouknight
Notable Stats: .242 BA, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 4 GDP, SB, .492 OPS

Description: Like Christian, Bouknight started the year in a terrible slump, hitting in the low .100s in early April. However he has improved his hitting drastically since then, capped off by an 18-game hitting streak.

CF- Tovar
Notable Stats: .325 BA, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 12 R, .382 SLG, .331 OBP, 47 TB, .713 OPS, 0 E, 1.000 FPCT

Description: Tovar has been the heart and soul of the Ice Wolves offense, and leads them in almost every offensive category, including: BA, HR, R, SLG, OBP, TB, and OPS. He shown the ability to consistently drive the ball to all fields. He, like those above him, got off to a slow start, at one point maintaining a .207 average, but has increased his average by 118 points since then. He also has been good in the field.

3B- Garrett House
Notable Stats: .258 BA, 0 HR, 9 RBI, 42 SO, .547 OPS, 3 E, .962 FPCT, 2.67 RF

Description: Team Captain Garrett House may be the team's biggest disappointment so far. He has hit only .258, in large part because of the fact that he has racked up 42 strikeouts. However, he does maintain an outstanding BABIP (.397). He also has not lived up to his power potential, only slugging .283. However, he has done better than expected on defense, only committing three errors while showing fantastic range, with a range factor of 2.67.

1B- Arellano
Notable Stats: .291 BA, 0 HR, 6 RBI, 6 2B, 7 XBH, .359 SLG, .650 OPS, 1 E, .996 FPCT

Description: Arellano has performed adequately so far, being the second-best hitter on the team. He leads the team with 7 extra-base hits, and has done well in key situations. His hitting has overshadowed his fantastic glove at first base, making only one error while showing great range.

C- Fussell
Notable Stats: .243 BA, 0 HR, 13 RBI, .511 OPS, .997 FPCT, 16 PB

Description: Although Fussell's RBI stat may be inflated because he has Tovar, House, and Arellano in front of him, he has performed in the clutch, leading the team to several key wins with his bat. However, to call him a liability behind the plate is an understatement. Although his Fielding Percentage doesn't show it, has has 16 passed balls, good for worst in the league.

RF- Leon
Notable Stats: .243 BA, 0 HR, 6 RBI, .511 OPS, 1.000 FPCT

Description: Leon has been up and down all season. He started the year off to a hot start, maintaining an average of over .300, but then came crashing down, hitting as low as .202. He has started to heat up once again, having raised his average 41 points, but the lack of consistency is concerning. He has been very good in the field.

LF- Sandberg
Notable Stats: .222 BA, 0 HR, 5 RBI, .465 OPS

Description: Overall, Sandberg has been a liability at the plate, however, he has been clutch at times, such as when he got that walk-off single of Danys Baez. He needs to improve plate discipline a little. He has been good in the field.

2B- Sparks
Notable Stats: .267 BA, 0 HR, 4 RBI, .554 OPS, 1 E, .992 FPCT, 4.60 RF

Description: Sparks has performed much better than expected, and has been consistent all year. His numbers, particularly his .267 BA, would stand out even more if Christian could drive him in. However, like Christian, his main story is his defense. He has shown fantastic range on balls most second baseman can't get to, and he has made only one fielding error. If he can keep performing, he could become a star.

Overall Analysis: Many people may put the blame on the Ice Wolves' .252 team batting average as the reason for their lack of success, but the main reason for their lack of production is that they are a station-to-station team."We need three hits to get just one run in an inning, and that's a problem" said manager Ronald Miller. "We need to add some power to the lineup, however that may be." However, the team defense has been phenomenal, and has contributed to the Ice Wolves' league best pitching staff.

Get Garrett to use power swing, if you're trying to just hit it with him, that's fine, but if you're up in the count like 3-1, 3-0, I'd use it.
