Anyway, straying away from the topic of sudokus; taking away Paul's Samurai vote and adding it to the Defenders would make it 7-5, Defenders. Assuming that's about all the votes I'll get, but I'll leave the polling open a little longer. Plus Defenders really fits the team , because this is the defensive team I've been speaking of in the GCT.

Currently have 13 players made, but I have only one starting fielder left. After that things should pick up pace because I won't have to worry about getting 4 A's for my backups or pitchers.

What does a defender look like anyway?

I'm on my phone and inserting images is a pain, but google the Connecticut Defenders logo. :)

Tim walked out of his interview with the Defenders(as they had now been named) feeling rather confident. Especially because there were only 5 people who applied for the GM position. One was an older(Tim guessed around 60-65) American man. There was also a middle aged Australian guy, but he was pretty much told on the spot that he wouldn't get the job. Another was a former manager, around 50, who had bounced around the NPB but never really stuck anywhere. And lastly was a really old Japanese man who looked like he was dead when he was sitting down because he was so still and quiet. Except his breathing. That was loud and raspy. Tim felt out of place there, but felt as if his interview went well. And so he boarded his plane and flew back to Virgina. Back to the toy factory. "God, I hope I get this job," he thought to himself. "Or really any job there. I don't think I can stand this place much longer."
_______________

Around a week after his interview, Tim received a phone call. He now had the number of Mr. Kojima saved in his phone, and so he knew who it was before he answered. He took a deep breath, and picked up the phone.

Tim: Hello?
Mr. K: Ah, Mr. Hayden. Pleasure to be speaking with you again.
Tim: No, the pleasure is all mine.
Mr. K: Don't you want to hear what I have to say before you say that it is a pleasure?
This caught Tim off-guard, and there was a short awkward silence.
Mr. K: Ha, don't worry Timothy. The news I bring isn't that bad.
Tim: Isn't that bad?
Mr. K: Well, you see, we narrowed down applicants to just you and a Mr. Suzuki. Ichiro Suzuki's grandfather, to be exact.
Tim: Are you serious?
Tim didn't know whether to be more excited about him being in the top two, or confused about Ichiro's grand-dad.
Tim: That's excellent news! Thank you very much for considering me, Mr. Kojima! But may I ask, was Ichiro's grandfather there the day I interviewed?
Mr. K: Yes, all the applicants were there that day.
Tim began to think that he just hadn't noticed him, until he heard what Mr. Kojima had to say next.
Mr. K: He was the elderly man, who didn't get around too well.
Tim: Oh. The one who breathed really loud and looked half dead?
Mr. K: That's hardly the way I would go around describing my elders, but yes, I suppose we are speaking of the same person.
Tim: Er, sorry.
Mr. K: Anyway, we have it narrowed down to you and Mr. Suzuki, like I said. However, we do not feel as if the first interview was enough for us to choose between you two, and would like to request a second interview, this Saturday.
Tim: This Saturday? That's only 3 days away, can we make it a later date?
Mr. K: I'm sure you'll manage.
Tim: Bu-
And, as he had a habit of doing, Mr. Kojima abruptly hung up the phone on Timothy, before he had a chance to finish.
Tim: Argh, I hate how he does that.

However, his anger was not too serious, as he soon became giddy over the prospect of having a second interview to become GM of the Tokyo Defenders. He immediately took his lunch break at work, and used it to set up his second trip of the month to Japan. It wasn't easy to find an open flight, but he managed.

Tim: Well, now all I can do is wait.

Tim was surprised on Friday morning to receive a phone call from Mr. Kojima, just a few hours before he was going to leave work and go home, and pack for his trip. He quickly answered.

Tim: Hello?
Mr. K: Greetings, Tim. I'm afraid I come bearing bad news...
Tim began to sweat a little, and began to wonder if they had decided to cancel the second interview and just give the job to Mr. Suzuki.
Mr. K: Yes, bad news indeed. Our plan is to hire Mr. Suzuki instead. We have come to the decision over the last 24 hours that it is best for the organization. The people over here want this to be Japan's team, and it just wouldn't be right for it to be headed by an American.
Tim: I understand completely, Mr. Kojima. Is there any chance I could get another position with the team?
Mr. K: No.
Tim sat in disbelief, dumbfounded and at a loss for words. Another opportunity that he let slip through his fingers. He was a failure. He was just a factory manager.
Tim: Come on, there has to be something else! Anything else for God's sake!
Tim was beginning to get angry, not only at himself, but at Mr. Kojima.
Mr. K: Keep your anger in check if you know what is good for you.
Tim: ...I apologize.
Mr. K: Good. There is a reason I cannot offer you another position.
Tim: And what may that reason be?
Mr. K: You see, we were going to hire Mr. Suzuki. It made sense.
Tim: ...
Mr. K: However, Mr. Suzuki has been diagnosed with cancer, and has been given only a few weeks to live. We cannot hire a dead man, Timothy.
Tim: ....Seriously?
Mr. K: Yes, fortunately for you, you are the last option.
Tim tried to hide his excitement, but found it hard
Tim: Send my condolences to the Suzuki family!
The last line came out a little to eagerly, and made him sound a little snobbish.
Mr. K: Hmph. Of course. You will quit your job at Bandai Distribution and move to Japan. We have an apartment paid for already, where you will live. It is 2 blocks from the park. You are flying over here on Saturday anyway, so we don't need to worry about travel. When you arrive on Sunday, take a cab to the Bandai Headquarters and come to my office on the top floor. We will be expecting you. You have roughly 24 hours to say good-bye to the U.S. and to your family. Of course, we will be back during the season, but it won't be easy. Do you accept the job, Mr. Hayden?
There was a short pause, before;
Tim: Of course.
Mr. K: Great. See you tomorrow.
Tim: Yes, sir! I can't wait to start!
Tim almost hung up the phone, but heard;
Mr. K: Timothy?
Tim: Yes, sir?
Mr. K: You are on a short leash. You are not our first option. Do not mess this up.
And, per usual, Mr. Kojima got the last word in before hanging up without waiting for a reply.

Timothy's head was spinning, and he had butterflies in his stomach. "Don't worry, Mr. Kojima! I won't let you down!" he said to himself. After that, he began calling his parents, relatives, and friends to tell them he was leaving the country.

I rated this a six because I think it going well and all, it just seems like it's not catching on with the crowd. But maybe it's just because I'm paranoid about that and I need attention.

(Express your opinion as an American or Canadian or other, and go vote!)

I gave it a 5/10, it has the potential to be really good, but you haven't even played a game yet.

Also, DP

That's cuz I don't have all the players yet and didn't want to have to wait to start playing games once I did. So I started te story a little early.

?: Welcome back, kids and coaches! I'm-
*ring ring ring*
?: Damn it, LeAnne, I told you not to call me while I'm filming!
Picks up phone.
?: What?
Tim: Yes, is this Kent Murphy?
Kent: Yeah, what do you want? Is that you, Chucky?
Tim: No, my name is Timothy Hayden.
Kent: Well I'm busy now, Tim so can I call you back later?
Tim: This will only take a minute, I promise.
Kent: Fine, just make it quick.
Tim: Well, I'm the GM of the new MLB team, the Tokyo Defenders-
Kent: Isn't Tokyo in China?
Tim: Actually, Japan.
Kent: It's all the same, isn't it?
Tim: Uh... anyways, we are in need of your services.
Kent: Can't. I got kicked out of the MLB for fighting Terry Pendleton 34 times as a rookie in Spring Training.
Tim: Yes, we've heard of your past. We contacted the MLB, and they said they would lift your ban if you got the job. But if you get into any more fights, you're done.
Kent: HA! Take that Pete Rose! So you need me to play third base for your team right? But why would you pick something boring like defense for the team's name? It's stupid.
Tim: Well, I didn't pick the name... And no, we're actually contacting you to be the manager of the team.
Kent: Well that's okay too, 'cuz I'm currently the only player-manager in my rec league.
Tim: Well, we hadn't planned on you playing at all, just coaching.
Kent: You either get Kent Murphy, the player-coach, or you get nothing.
Tim: Well, I guess I'll have to talk to the owner then. I'll get back to you tomorrow.
Kent: Fine.
