March 30, 2001

24-year-old Greg Alexander just graduated from one most prestigious schools Harvard and now was looking for a job in sports managements his major. He caught headlines when he was told that he would be starting off with one of the best teams in the league New York Yankees. In three years with the Yankees here and winning two pennants but fell short of the World Series twice he was later fired because it was apparently his fault according to the boss George Steinbrenner was brought in three of the most prestigious free agents and Randy Johnson Alex Rodriguez and Gary Sheffield and then Japanese megastar Hideki Matsui.

Five years later
October 31, 2006

Now 29-year-old Greg Alexander had found no fortune with one other team the St. Louis Cardinals who had lost the 04 World Series and 2005 NLCS to the Astros. This year was different he had finally help buy a winning team. Bring in Ronnie Belliard and Jeff Weaver to help lead them a 83-79 record and a World Series victory but he now was known as a great executive and a great GM but the winds of change were right around the corner.

January 30, 2008
31 years old Greg Alexander was at a turning point in his career he went back to coaching school and was tired of being an executive now he wanted to be a manager who would call and pick up 31-year-old rookie manager with no experience outside of the executive offices.
He picked the paper that morning two new franchises to be added in San Antonio and in Salt Lake City. I should apply for the job with San Antonio team Alexander though to himself. He called the number and was talked by a gruff sounding but gentle voice.

Alexander: Hello?
???: Hello there son what can I do for you.
Alexander: I'm Greg Alexander ex GM and I'd like to try and manage that new team of yours. The speedsters?
Mr. Slow: My name is Slow. Jim Slow my son slow is also a baseball player who is very fast and if you want to scout him feel free.
Alexander: So when can I have an interview Mr. Slow?
Mr. Slow: Your interview is on February 5 11:30 am don't be late.
Alexander: oh thank you sir.
Alexander couldn't handle how excited he was.

February 5, 2008 11:15 am

As Alexander enter Mr. Slow's office he noticed three other applicants for this job. Michael Grossman ex coach with white sox and Rockies 1990-2003 age 56. Manny Hernandez ex pitcher for the pirates, dodgers, mariners, and bluejays 1977-1993 age 50. Then there was a 40 year old man who looked extremely ripped named Terry Cooper who played in the major with the Giants, Yankees, and Red Sox amassing 350 home runs before retiring in 2005 with knee problems. As the interviews went on it was finally my turn and as I looked as the other three candidates I was nervous how can I compete with a future hall of famer and two base encyclopedias. As I entered Mr. Slow's office I was surprised to see the 55 year old owner smirking at me. As he said I got the job and those guys were my bench coach, hitting coach, and pitching coach. As I opened the door in came Michael, Manny, and Terry to shake my hand and welcome me to the my first managerial job.

W: LJ Thomas (1-0)
L: Westbrook (0-1)

In a post game interview Chamberlain was asked how he felt about just missing the cycle

I can only do things to the best of my abilities.

Reporter: What about your teammate Sam Smith who had struggled last night?

Chamberlain: well, He was going up against CC so I guess he got jittery.
Yet he came out and went 4-5 against Westbrook so he is better now.
