so i was tweaking some of the players' stats to make them closer to reality, then testing out my results by simming a couple seasons to see how they do.

i noticed that the Mariners' Sexson wasn't as horrible in the game as he is in real life, so i edited his stats down a bit. he was still doing far too well (hitting ~.300 if i recall) so i gave him the "poor day game," "poor night game," and "poor rain" abilities thinking that they would bring his numbers down a fair amount (i think he starts out with one of those by default, but i forget). but somehow, he started hitting better. i edited him down to F CON and D PWR but still he was hitting well over .300 and had 20+ homers. after trying several different things, i simply got rid of all his "poor" abilities and bingo, he was hitting like .230 consistantly.

now, i realize that there can be a great deal of variability between simmed seasons. sometimes a player will have a great year and the next time he will suck, all with the same stats. but Sexson never seemed to have a bad year with those "poor" abilities. i'm still not sure if that is really what was causing it, but it sure seemed that way.

i was having similar trouble with a couple other players, and found that they had one or more of those "poor" abilities by default. i got rid of them and it seemed to work again.

perhaps there is some sort of bug with those abilities, or maybe some combination of them. or maybe the simulation is just more random than i thought. i'll do some more testing on this. anyone have any insights?

it could be that an ability like pr rain not only makes the player play worse in rain, but maybe better when it isnt raining. lets say, on a scale of 1-10, a player stats make him a seven. He has pr rain, so his average on a rainy day is a 6, but an 8 on a non-rainy day. That could explain why your guys did better.
