you could just edit the players and see if there is a change and if there is one then set everything to zero and focus on one thing and montier the change of course this is if you havent done it already and one more thing even if you crack the code what makes you think that the game would allow you to make a player just putting in a code

Of course the game allows you. That's exactly what happens when you exchange players. You input a password, a player is created.

You're right about editing. I totally forgot that that would be an easier way to go about cracking the code.

yes but im thinking that code has to be an actual player that was created. like how the wii points are you could put all the codes you want but you cant get any points until you buy those numbers see what i mean

I think I do. I believe you're referring to the code that's revealed after you scratch the back of the points cards. These codes are precreated by Nintendo. They print them on the cards and keep track of them on their network. That's how they minimize the possibility of someone guessing them. It's not impossible, just highly unlikely. Once a specific code is redeemed, it is no longer valid. (This is exactly how most merchants handle gift cards.) The cards are necessary for people who can't use a credit card via the Wii Shop Channel, or don't want to.

But this is not how player passwords work. Whereas the code on points cards translate into a set number of Wii points, passwords need to be converted into a specific player with specific stats/abilities, a specific name/birthday/appearance, etc. How can that be created in advance? No one would know if I wanted to name my player ABCDEFGHIJKLM NOPQRSTUVWXYZ.

Even if that was possible, how would one person's Wii know what any given password translates into? Not everyone's Wii is online, so you could not connect to a central server or to the originator's Wii. The only other way to know would be to have every single possible password combination and what player it's mapped to stored on the game disc itself, which is ridiculously cumbersome. It's far simpler to just store the algorithm used to encode/decode a password.

if we could crack the code, then we could have all our pitches be original, because we know what sequence of symbols give you original, right?

Not necessarily. Success mode is designed such that you can only have one original pitch, so it may be that the decryption scheme only expects one at the most. It depends on how lazy the development team was. Not everyone cares about checking for values that are out of bounds.

Why don't we just ask some professional hackers to hack into the game and look at the code?

well before any "code cracking" you need to find the master code which should be the easy one to find

True, but how much?
$50 probably wouldn't be out of the question if you got a friend or two to help out out. Plus, even if it was alot, you'd be IMMORTAL on this site...

I once used a Homebrew program to backup my PP save data to my SD card when I had a success mode player going into the last game. I finished the player once, took a screen shot of the password, restored the old save data and finished the player again--this time increasing his batting power by one point.

After looking at the passwords for the virtually identical players I found that, while the passwords were quite similar, there were more differences than you'd expect. I think this might be the result of slightly different random events that happened at the end of success mode. Again, the stats, abilities and profile were exactly the same (with the exception of one point of power) but I was given different bats from the resolution of the Hawaii-love-story plot.

I actually even tried going back to the old data one more time to exactly recreate the original player to see if I got the same password. Once again I ended up with different equipment (not equipped--the equipped stuff was the same) and the password ended up being about as different from the first try as the second (slightly altered) one was.

If you want I can upload the screen shots. I feel like I might have gotten somewhere if I had tried this routine a bunch of more times but it's a really tedious time-consuming process. If someone else wanted to put int the time trying this Id be happy to explain the (fairly simple) process.

One comment I'd make, though, is that, even though the change of one stat point created quite a few differences, the two passwords were similar enough that it didn't seem like there's a strong checksum component.

Ben
