so, the ballot's out on mlb.com

I had an idea, to vote now, then compare my ballot now to the one I fill out throughout the process (e.g. one now, one in a week or two, and so on)

so here's my Current Ballot (May 1):

American League

C: Salvador Perez, KC
1B: Mitch Moreland, BOS
2B: Jose Altuve, HOU
SS: Francisco Lindor, CLE
3B: Miguel Sano, MIN
OF: Aaron Judge, NYY; Mike Trout, LAA; Kevin Pillar, TOR
DH: Nelson Cruz, SEA

National League

C: J.T. Realmuto, MIA
1B: Ryan Zimmerman, WSH
2B: Brandon Phillips, ATL
SS: Corey Seager, LAD
3B: Justin Turner, LAD
OF: Matt Kemp, ATL; Bryce Harper, WSH; A.J. Pollock, ARZ

tell me how shitty my ballot is in the comments! (or post yours, whatever)

Completely based on stats and not popularity (flashback to last year's infield for NL).
Also Nelson Cruz because I feel bad for the Astros beating the Mariners all the time and Eric Thames because home runs.

solid ballot, Queso!

(fun fact: Ryan Zimmerman is tied with Eric Thames for the league lead in home runs, lmao)

That's why there's updates
R.I.P. Eric Thames only hit 1 home run in the last 5-6 days if any at all.

New ballot (May 17):

American League

C: Salvador Perez, KC (no change)
1B: Mitch Moreland, BOS Yonder Alonso, OAK
2B: Jose Altuve, HOU (no change)
SS: Francisco Lindor, CLE Jean Segura, SEA
3B: Miguel Sano, MIN (no change)
OF: Aaron Judge, NYY; Mike Trout, LAA; Kevin Pillar, TOR (no changes)
DH: Nelson Cruz, SEA Corey Dickerson, TB

National League

C: J.T. Realmuto, MIA Buster Posey, SF
1B: Ryan Zimmerman, WSH (no change)
2B: Brandon Phillips, ATL Daniel Murphy, WSH
SS: Corey Seager, LAD Chris Owings, ARZ
3B: Justin Turner, LAD (no change)
OF: Matt Kemp, ATL; Bryce Harper, WSH (no change); A.J. Pollock, ARZ Marcell Ozuna, MIA; Charlie Blackmon, COL

I'm actually pretty surprised by the consistency, it's only been a little over 2 weeks but I expected some of those hot-starting players to cool down. Of note, many of the players I scratched (Cruz, Realmuto, Kemp, Pollock) were still in consideration (final 2 or 3) but didn't end up as my final choice. Also of note, I'm making almost all decisions based on the limited information at my disposal (MLB.com gives AVG, HR, RBI, and SB), with only a few close calls decided by other measures -- so as a result, players who contribute in other ways, namely defense, end up getting undervalued a lot.

Update: I didn't put in Michael Conforto because of LGM's comment.
EDIT: Is it just me, or do we collectively agree the NL outfield should be Harper, Blackmon and Ozuna?

lol p much everyone has Harper/Ozuna/Blackmon at this point. a few others making good cases but damn

also. def agree with Freeman, but I never vote for injured players as a personal rule. Zimmerman/Goldschmidt were the top 2 I considered there.

good to see Cubs fans stuffing the ballots again this year

there are at least 20 other outfielders more deserving of an all star spot than heyward

so voting ends tonight

have any of your ballots changed in the last month or so? here's how mine looks now:

AL
C Brian McCann
1B Justin Smoak
2B Jose Altuve
SS Carlos Correa
3B Miguel Sano
OF Avisail Garcia
OF Mookie Betts
OF Mike Trout
DH Corey Dickerson

NL
C Buster Posey
1B Paul Goldschmidt
2B D.J. LeMahieu
SS Zack Cozart
3B Nolan Arenado
OF Jay Bruce
OF Marcell Ozuna
OF Giancarlo Stanton

Reasoning: In the NL OF, I wanted to knock off Heyward and Zobrist, so I gave votes to Ozuna and Stanton, since it's their home park and the deserve it more. (Still had to give my man Jay Bruce some votes, although he'll be a reserve anyway). Also, Arenado is better than Bryant, Goldschmidt is criminally underrated and how cool would it be to see Zack Cozart start all All Star Game? For the AL, lmfao @ justin smoak getting so many votes, and I have Garcia on my fantasy team so

Here's my ballot, which I'm submitting today:

AL
C - Alex Avila (as a write-in; he's arguably having a great year)
1B - Miguel Cabrera (more of a legacy pick than anything)
2B- Jose Altuve (duh)
SS - Carlos Correa (duh)
3B - Miguel Sano (toss-up between him and Ramirez)
OF - Aaron Judge (duh)
OF - George Springer (having a pretty good year)
OF - Mike Trout (because he's Mike mother-effing Trout. Even though he's injured.)
DH - Corey Dickerson (because A) he's having a better season than Cruz, and B: I didn't want to pick Nelson Cruz)

NL
C - Buster Posey (duh)
1B - Paul Goldschmidt (imagine actually voting for Ryan Zimmerman)
2B - Daniel Murphy (statistically, the best 2B in the NL atm)
SS - Zack Cozart (I can't believe the season this guy's having, holy crap)
3B - Nolan Arenado (because it's mother-effing Nolan Arenado. However, did give some consideration to Travis Shaw)
OF - Bryce Harper (duh)
OF - Marcell Ozuna (quietly having a great year)
OF - Charlie Blackmon (debated between him and Stanton for a minute)

What say you guys? This a good ballot?
