INJURY UPDATES

Single-A affiliate Hickory was struck by injury this week, as infielder Juremi Profar was hobbled by a knee injury. An MRI was taken on the affected area, and the diagnosis for Profar was a torn ACL which will put him out about 8 months.
The major league team, meanwhile, received good news as RHP Yu Darvish and OF Josh Hamilton both progressed well in rehab this week. Hamilton could begin a rehab assignment as early as next week while Darvish is about 2-3 weeks away from pitching in game action.

DEMOTED

and he's cool with it

also how is the general manager of a major league baseball team still going to high school, and goes to said school's baseball practice

this log is just like ben carson's campaign
i mean he's not missing any starts, we had an off-day so we were gonna skip him anyways, and we'll call him back up in time for his next turn

ALSO he's a team-first guy I guess?

also 90% of the stuff in that story update actually happened irl (dad working late on his birthday, me going to school, etc.). only stuff that didn't is the part about me being the rangers' GM and even then most of that time I was "making roster moves" was me playing OOTP so
ok, but you don't see the mets demoting syndergaard to make room for sean gilmartin on off days, do you?

also why is he going to school when he is the general manager of the *(censored)* team

this makes less sense than john kasich staying in the race

But how is Trump going to win then? We need Kasich to make America Great Again

After a much-needed off day, we now have an important division series against the Astros, who come in at 9-4.

4/19: Astros 7, Rangers 1

W: Fiers (3-0)
L: Hamels (2-1)

Fiers (HOU): 5 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
Altuve (HOU): 2-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R
Gomez (HOU): 2-5, HR, 2 RBI, R, SB

4/20: Astros 4, Rangers 0

W: Keuchel (4-0)
L: Perez (1-3)

Keuchel (HOU): 8 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K
Altuve (HOU): 4-5, HR, RBI, R, SB
Duffy (HOU): 3-4, R

4/21: Astros 6, Rangers 3

W: McHugh (2-1)
L: Lewis (0-3)
S: Giles (7)

Duffy (HOU): 1-3, go-ahead 3-run HR in 7th
McHugh (HOU): 7 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K

Lewis (TEX): 6.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 8 K

Well, that was a clunker of a series. 0 out of 3 and now we’re 5.5 games back already. I think I may have to switch some things up soon — we’ve been a lot more aggressive on the basepaths ranking first in the AL with 23 stolen bases, but we’re in the bottom half in a lot of categories including 10th in ERA, 10th in opposing AVG, 9th in defensive efficiency, and 11th in team OPS.

In league news, three trades were made on the 20th:
The first will send RHP Anthony DeSclafani to Miami with 2B Derek Dietrich and C Maxx Tissenbaum heading to the Reds.
The second, between the Brewers and White Sox, will swap C Martin Maldonado and $500,000 for SS Tyler Saladino and C Brett Austin.
The third, however, is the biggest. Tampa Bay and Chicago (NL) have agreed to a trade that will send outfielders Steven Souza Jr. and Manny Sanchez to the Cubs and RHP John Lackey as well as a “significant” sum of cash to the Rays.

Our next series is against the White Sox, who come in at 6-11. Derek Holland and Cole Hamels will start Games 1 and 3 of the series, respectively, while righty A.J. Griffin will be recalled to start the second game. It remains unclear who will be demoted to make room for the bespectacled right-hander, but as Alex Claudio has dominated since being recalled last week, it will likely be another reliever or perhaps one of Texas’s four bench players, likely either Drew Stubbs or Justin Ruggiano.

“Justin, can you step into my office? I need to talk to you about something.”

“Yes, sir. I’ll be right there, just let me finish putting on my uniform.”

“Oh, don’t worry about that…”

Ruggiano’s glove sailed across the room and into his locker, where it made a loud thump off the wall. He was swearing to himself as he entered my office.

“Justin, I think you know what’s coming, so I just want to tell you formally that we’ve decided to designate you for assignment. I imagine you want to play in the Majors, though, so here are our options. If you get claimed on waivers, we’ll let you go to that team. If you pass through, we’ll attempt to find a home for you via trade, and if we can’t do that, we’ll release you so that you can pursue an opportunity elsewhere.”

“I understand. Thank you for the opportunity,” Ruggiano managed.

That was easier than I thought it would be… With any luck, someone will claim him, and we won’t have to pay the rest of his salary.

Hopefully we can at least win two out of three against the hapless White Sox, who come in at 6-11 (although at 7-10, I can’t say that we’re doing that much better.)

4/22: Rangers 5, White Sox 4

W: Holland (3-1)
L: Rodon (1-2)
S: Tolleson (5)

Holland (TEX): 6 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
Desmond (TEX): 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI

Frazier (CWS): 1-3, HR, 3 RBI, R

4/23: White Sox 9, Rangers 5

W: Latos (2-1)
L: Griffin (0-1)

Walker (CWS): 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R
Jackson (CWS): 1-3, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R, BB
DeShields Jr. (TEX): 2-5, 3B, 2 RBI, SB

4/24: White Sox 5, Rangers 0

W: Sale (2-2)
L: Hamels (2-2)

Sale (CWS): 7.2 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 13 K
Rollins (CWS): 1-4, HR, 3 RBI, R
Stubbs (TEX): 2-4, SB

Bad news: we lost the series to the White Sox. After a great start his last time out, A.J. Griffin struggled to put the Sox away, but our whole rotation has been struggling, with a 5.40 ERA, so we’re not going to rush any changes just yet.

Good news: Josh Hamilton has started a rehab assignment at Round Rock. He will serve as the DH for a few games before progressing to playing the field, and is likely to be called up within 2-3 weeks.

League news: Former Rangers outfielder Justin Ruggiano was claimed by the Cincinnati RedsAstros RHP Mike Fiers was traded to the Blue Jays for two minor-leaguers…Cardinals RHP Carlos Martinez is out for the season.

Our next series is a three-game series at home against the Yankees. After an off day, we will then take on the Angels at home before going back on the road.

The Yankees come in at 4-14, but given our poor record, they probably won’t go down without a fight. We better start winning some games…

4/25: Yankees 11, Rangers 4

W: Severino (1-2)
L: Perez (1-4)

Teixeira (NYY): 2-5, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 R
Beltran (NYY): 2-5, 2B, 2 RBI, R, SB
Castro (NYY): 3-5, HR, RBI, 2 R

[Hamilton was the DH for the Express, going 1 for 3 with a strikeout and a sacrifice.]

4/26: Rangers 6, Yankees 5

W: Tolleson (1-0)
L: Rumbelow (0-1)

Moreland (TEX): 2-4, walk-off RBI double in 9th
Beltran (NYY): 2-3, HR, 3 RBI, R
Fielder (TEX): 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, R, BB

[Hamilton again served as Round Rock’s DH, and went 1 for 4 with a strikeout.]

4/27: Rangers 5, Yankees 4

W: Kela (1-0)
L: Pinder (0-2)
S: Tolleson (6)

Holland (TEX): 7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
Fielder (TEX): 2-4, solo HR in 8th
Moreland (TEX): 3-4, HR, RBI, 2 R

[Round Rock had the day off on Wednesday, but played on Thursday. Hamilton again was the DH, going 1 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout.]

Finally, a series win! The win is just our second of the season.

After the series, we optioned LHP Alex Claudio (9.82 ERA in 8 games) down to Round Rock and recalled RHP Phil Klein.

With Hamilton already on a rehab assignment, all eyes turned to RHP Yu Darvish, who has been progressing well in his rehab from Tommy John surgery and could begin a rehab assignment as early as next week.

Next up are the Angels, who have struggled early to the tune of a 6-16 record. Their offense has really struggled to produce, although Mike Trout is putting up huge numbers with a .361/.424/.566 slash line to go with 4 HR, 13 RBI, and 3 SB (albeit with 3 CS as well).

As I mentioned before, the Angels have been struggling early this season, and hopefully we’ll be able to get at least two out of three if not a sweep.

4/29: Rangers 10, Angels 4

W: Griffin (1-1)
L: Shoemaker (1-3)

Choo (TEX): 3-5, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R
Andrus (TEX): 2-3, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, SB, HBP
Griffin (TEX): 7 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

[Hamilton DHed again for Round Rock, and went 1 for 3 with a two-run homer, a walk, and two sac bunts in the 11-inning loss to Nashville.]

4/30: Angels 12, Rangers 4

W: Weaver (2-2)
L: Hamels (2-3)

Calhoun (LAA): 4-5, HR, RBI, 3 R
Escobar (LAA): 2-4, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, R, BB
Trout (LAA): 2-5, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, R

[Hamilton keyed the Express offense to a 20-3 dismantling of Nashville, going 4 for 5 with 2 RBI, 3 runs, a walk, a strikeout, and two home runs — one against reliever Ryan Brasier and one against outfielder Andrew Lambo. He will now progress to playing the field, starting with six innings in left field.]

5/1: Angels 8, Rangers 3

W: Richards (1-2)
L: Perez (1-5)

Richards (LAA): 8 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K
Trout (LAA): 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, R, BB

Desmond (TEX): 2-4, HR, RBI, 2 R, SB

[…or the whole game in left? defensive subs are weird in this game. Hamilton went 1 for 4 with a solo homer and 2 strikeouts. he’s now hitting .409 with 4 home runs, 5 RBI, and 6 strikeouts against 3 walks in 28 PA/22 at-bats.]

Next up are the Blue Jays, who come in at 14-12. Third baseman Josh Donaldson, who is hitting .349 with 11 home runs, is day-to-day with what the team is calling a mild hip strain.

this log is dead. i'm just gonna dump all the other updates i had done in here, with no formatting because *(censored)* that I'm lazy

Now that school is basically over, I have a lot more time to focus on the team. I do still have two AP exams, but I only have to go to those two classes, and it’s not like I’m gonna study for those anyways.

I don’t know what to do with this team. Other than our K/BB rates and baserunning, I don’t think we’re doing anything particularly well so far. We are 32 for 42 (76%) on stolen-base attempts, and our pitching staff is top-5 in both walks allowed and strikeouts (and we’re tied for third in walks taken), but our pitching is atrocious, our hitting is nearly as bad, and we have almost no power with a team ISO of .129 and AL-worst SLG and home-run totals. The Round Rock Express, our Triple-A affiliate, seem to be doing pretty well across the board, and the addition of Josh Hamilton will hopefully give our offense a boost. (Although maybe not, since our top hitters are our three outfielders and our DH…)

Speaking of Hamilton, he is performing quite well during his rehab, and once he gets a few more games under his belt defensively, he could be ready to join the team potentially later this week (probably not for the Toronto series, due to the turf surface.)

Now on to the Toronto series! The division race is looking tough so far — even a four-game sweep couldn’t get us past Oakland in third place. But hey, at least the Angels suck.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Remember what I said about a four-game sweep in this series? Well, don’t get your hopes up too high for that…

5/2: Blue Jays 6, Rangers 4

W: Happ (3-1)
L: Lewis (0-4)
S: Osuna (10)

Saunders (TOR): 3-3, 3B, HR, 4 RBI, R
Happ (TOR): 6.1 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 K
Fielder (TEX): 2-5, HR, 2 RBI, R

5/3: Blue Jays 12, Rangers 0

W: Estrada (1-2)
L: Holland (3-2)

Colabello (TOR): 3-4, HR, 6 RBI, 2 R
Estrada (TOR): 8 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
Holland (TEX): 2.1 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 1 K

hey, here’s some good news: we extended Adrian Beltre for 3 more years! ok that’s it. back to our regularly scheduled—

5/4: Blue Jays 10, Rangers 0

WHAT THE *(censored)* GUYS COME ON

W: Stroman (2-3)
L: Griffin (1-2)

Stroman (TOR): CG, 3 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 7 K
Bautista (TOR): 2-3, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB
Thole (TOR): 2-4, SB, R

JOSH *(censored)* THOLE STOLE A BASE WHAT THE SHIT HE HASN’T DONE THAT AT ANY LEVEL SINCE 2010

THEY HAD SIX HOME RUNS IN ONE GAME AND FIVE AGAINST GRIFFIN

TRANSACTION TIME BITCHES

LET’S SEND DOWN… UH… EVERYONE

Image

5/5: Rangers 8, Blue Jays 6

W: Hamels (3-3)
L: Fiers (4-1)
S: Dyson (1)

Hamilton (TEX): 3-5, HR, 3 RBI, R
Colabello (TOR): 3-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 2 R
Fielder (TEX): 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB

ok so we won BUT tolleson almost blew it and then dyson almost blew it even harder

but hey, a win’s a win

next up: 3 games in Detroit. the Tigers are ok (they’re first in the AL Central with a 15-13 record) and our entire starting rotation has ERAs starting with 6 (except Nick Martinez who hasn’t pitched yet).

------------------------------------------------------------------

good news! the Tigers have lost their last 5 games coming into this series.

bad news! that streak’s not gonna last very long.

5/6: Tigers 4, Rangers 3

W: Zimmermann (3-1)
L: Kela (1-1)
S: Rodriguez (7)

Kinsler (DET): 4-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R
Gose (DET): 3-5, 2 RBI
Odor (TEX): 2-2, HR, 2 RBI, R

ok so we lost to a team with Yuniesky Betancourt

but hey YU DARVISH will start his rehab assignment tomorrow with Round Rock!!!!!!!! he’s expected to throw about 50 pitches, so he’ll probably throw a complete game with 16 runs allowed.

5/7: Rangers 6, Tigers 3

W: Lewis (1-4)
L: Pelfrey (2-1)
S: Tolleson (7)

Beltre (TEX): 3-4, 2 RBI, R, BB
Andrus (TEX): 3-4, 2 RBI, R, SB
Lewis (TEX): 6.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 2 K (quality start!!!!!! [important because it’s only our 12th QS out of 32 games])

(Darvish went four innings, allowing three hits and one run while walking one and striking out three. He threw 54 pitches, and had a game score of 54 [!] as well as a 6/2 GB/FB ratio [important because infield defense > outfield defense].)

5/8: Rangers 7, Tigers 3 (13)

W: Freeman (1-0)
L: Lowe (1-2) [lol]

Holland (TEX): 7 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K (era is now under 6!!!!!!! [only SP to do so])
Beltre (TEX): 3-7, 2B, HR, RBI, 2 R
Nicholas (TEX): 2-6, 2 RBI, R; go-ahead 2-run single in 13th

the draft pool is out, for the draft. top prospects (for the draft) include draft prospects of the draft such as prospects:

(for the draft)
2B Greg Deichmann out of college
RHP Kyle Funkhouser, out of college (prospect)
LHP Jason Groome out of high-school (for the draft [YOU CAN’T DO THIS IN THE NBA, BUT BASEBALL YOU CAN!!])
CF Jaxpeohfo BUFIOR out of the whitest preschool in town (real name)
RHP Jordan Sheffield from college

next week, we conclude our tour of the AL central (division) with a three-game series against the White Sox. They are ok but they’re worse than the Tigers and we just beat the Tigers twice so we’re gonna beat this team like 55 times I think.
