Man, this game is wickedly complicated...

Level 3 of Bookworm states that you can unlock the hidden abilities of items. How exactly is this done? Nothing happened when I bought an item that had hidden abilities. Does it just mean you learn them faster? If so, how much faster?

Not all items have secret abilities. In order to see them you need to have Moneyman level 4 I believe

Also you need to use the items in actual baseball games to learn the abilities. Equip one you can see and unlock and play in a game, then come back to it. The little boxes under the properties area will be filled in, and once all of them are filled in you gain that ability.

After playing two games with the equipment, the abilities should all be unlocked.

Hmmm.... I must be confused. What's level 3 then? I could have sworn it said something about unlocking abilities from items. Also, I realize that not all items have abilities and that in order to get abilities from the items that do, you normally have to gain experience by playing games with them. Is the only benefit of level 4 that you can see the ability before you earn it or do you actually learn it faster?

The only real benefit from Moneyman Level 4 is to actually see the bonuses. Not all items have bonuses, so without the moneyman level it's a crapshoot if you are even getting a bonus, and if it's not a bonus you already have. For example, I am almost 100% sure none of the Shoe items give bonuses. Bats give hitting bonuses, gloves give fielding and pitching bonuses.

To clarify, bookworm 3 is needed in order to "unlock" the abilities - meaning, a bat or glove might have a potential (one or more hidden abilities), but you won't be able to get those abilities before you've gotten bookworm 3. Moneyman 4 is related just in that it allows you to see what hidden abilities an item has before you buy it or unlock it (instead of just seeing "potential ?").

The easiest path to bookworm levels is to study right off to get level 1, and then buy the mind training necklace when the shop becomes available - your bookworm rating will then go up every time you practice.
