The Rays lost in extras to the Red Sox. After slowly tying the game, the Red Sox burst open scoring 3 runs to solidify the win. Dohmann was on the mound when all 3 runs scored, 1 was credited to Miller. The Rays are now 5 games back from the Yankees - for the division lead - and are 4 behind the Red Sox for 2nd place (Wild Card spot at the moment). The Rays have a 2 series with the Red Sox (1 away, 1 home) and 1 home series against the Yankees in September. So it seems like they'll have some leverage if they still are within striking distance of a playoff berth.
.

.
The September call-up list was announced:
Matt Thornton
Mark Prior
Chad Orvella
George Sherrill
Mark Sweeney
Elliot Johnson
Nate Schierholtz
Nyjer Morgan

The Rays had a walk-off win against the Mariners thanks to Navarro's walk-off hit. The Rays attacked early in the game scoring 2 runs in the 2nd inning; the M's had a slightly more patient approach as they score 1 run in the 5th and 6th innings. Terrero pinch ran for Riggans in the 9th - which lead to Navarro taking over the catching duties for the 10th and 11th. The Rays' pen held up very nicely racking up 6 K in 3 IP.

The Rays will now be at home against the Red Sox and Yankees for the next 2 series. If there was a 2nd Wild Card spot the Rays would be 8 games up, so there isn't a big concern for having a team sneak up behind them. The next 3 games will the Rays' biggest ones of the season - if they sweep the Sox then they occupy the Wild Card berth.

The Rays managed to pull ahead and beat the Orioles in a high scoring affair. The Red Sox won 2 of the 3 games in that last series with the Rays but over the past 2 weeks the Rays were able to move above them in the standings. Lohse was pulled early since every game is very important but gave up 4 runs - which tied the game. Crawford's lead-off triple in the 6th gave the Rays some momentum; Zobrist joined the party in the inning after by hitting a 2-run home run to secure the lead. Other news is that 2 trade pieces, Jeff Day and Chuck James faced off against their former team.

The Rays have qualified for the Wild Card berth and will face the Angels in the ALDS; Kazmir is slated to start game 1 of the series.
.
.
Season stats have been posted and it seems that Gomes was the best offensive player for the Rays on the season (Iwamura close 2nd, imo).
Some odd quirks could be no Ray having 30 or more HR, Crawford having less than 30 SB. Kazmir going 9-9 with 3 full less ERA than Shields, who went 16-11.
.
.
.
.
I will post league leaders when awards are announced so those titles can be in the same post

After winning the first 2 games - of the ALDS - the Angels managed to extend to series for another game. Bush dominated in the K totals, Cueto produced a lot of ground outs. The Rays threatened several times (4 innings total) by having 2 hits in the same inning but only came across with 1 run. Majewski entered in the 6th with the bases loaded, but wasn't able to stop Figgans from knocking in 2 more runs. Price will take the mound at the Trop tomorrow to advance to the ALCS for the 3rd straight season.

The Rays have advanced to the ALCS for a 3rd straight season; they will face their division rivals - the Yankees. Price had a smooth outing but was replaced by Foulke in the 7th inning when the bases were loaded with 1 out. Foulke managed to escape the jam without allowing any runs to score. The Rays' bats started off early when Crawford hit a leadoff double, followed by another double from Iwamura. The last run was driven in by Riggans to score Votto.
.
.
A surprising as it may seem, Kazmir will take the mound for game 1 of the ALCS; the Yankees' starter has yet to be announced.

The Rays have been eliminated from the playoffs by the Yankees in the ALCS, series was 4-2. The Yankees regained the lead in the 6th inning where they had 4 consecutive batters earn a RBI. During that 6th inning, Lohse had runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs; Miller was called in to attempt to hold the lead but imploded on the mound and wasn't able to record an out. Most of the runs were credited to Lohse, but the damage was done. The Rays had 3 straight ground-ball out against Mariano ending the game.
.
.
The Yankees later on went to defeat the Mets (lmao) in the World Series, 4-2.
.
.
Next update will be league leaders and awards.

James Shields is a little miffed about not getting the start over Kyle Lohse, ngl

Yes, but Shields points to his FIP being over 1.50 less than his ERA and a home run rate far above his average to say that he was unlucky during the year, and that he was the better option.
