This one, unlike my Phoenix log, will be sort of like dr k's and cownip's old one, (with a bit of storytelling).
Astros were chosen because of general averageness. And they have an awesome ballpark.

The Astros have a good offense and their only real is starting is Oswalt and hes a beast!
I wish Biggio was still in this game, he was my first free agent ever in power pros and he was pretty good too

"WHAT?" exclaimed pretty much the whole Astros clubhouse, as did the 29 other clubhouses of MLB teams.

Bud Selig had just called a press conference, and his promise to "turn the league upside-down" was definitely kept.
His quote goes as follows:
"We have seen dynasties in the making and dynasties in decline for however many years, and after this, new dynasties will be made and new dynasties will decline at some point. It's all up to the GM's. This is a real test for them, and if they can pass, they will prove their worth in front of millions of fans."

In short, he had called for a draft, but not an ordinary rookie draft. Oh no.
Every MLB/AAA player would go into this pool of players to be selected, and a lottery was to be called up for the first pick in this draft. All players' salaries would remain the same as well, adding to the decision-making.

Roy Oswalt, the team's captain and anchor of their rotation, had this to say:
"After spending my whole career in this organization, it breaks my heart to have to leave, especially in front of all these dedicated fans."

"To think that I could be going to one of our biggest rivals, or playing against each other week after week..." added Michael Bourn, the team's leadoff man.

12:02 P.M, January 4, 2008.
The lottery is being held as we speak in Cooperstown, and of course, the winning lottery ticket will be enshrined in the Hall of Fame. The odds for each team are 30:1, so it will be interesting.

"The first number is 2," states Selig, wearing his best tuxedo and a really cheesy tie.
"The second number is 2," says Selig, trying his best to stay calm, especially with some pretty crazed fans in attendance.
"The third and final number is... 4."

224 was number of the Houston Astros, who immediately rejoiced upon hearing the news.

"And remember, the draft will take place two weeks from now, on the 18th." says Selig, as the attendees disband and the commissioner is escorted to his limousine, ready to go to sleep after a long, hard day.

IN OTHER NEWS:
The Houston Astros, owners of the first pick of the "Dream Draft," as sportswriter Dan Shaughnessy dubbed it, have fired their GM and hired a new GM, Steven Jackson. He in turn hired an assistant, Jacob Eagle, and h would need his assistant quite a bit, as they had only 2 weeks to prepare for the big draft.

Panic slowly started to creep into the front office come draft day.
The first pick didn't just mean the best player, it also provided the most pressure and the hardest decisions (position runs)
They finally got it together, and with a quavering voice, Jackson announced David Wright (edited) as the first pick of their hopeful dynasty.
In the third round, they were lucky enough to have Joakim Soria (edited) fall to them, and they quickly snapped him up.
The other notable pick was their 2nd starting pitcher, who happened to be none other than Roy Oswalt, in the 5th round.
He was elated.

Full rosters coming up next! (after dinner)

Awesome draft. I intend on trying to get Roy Oswalt on my chise soon, I'll probably do it based on how he performs for you.
